Abstract: A vascular access system which may be configured for blood draw may include a housing, which may include a distal end, a proximal end, and a slot disposed between the distal end and the proximal end. The slot may include a notch. The vascular access system may include a cannula hub, which may be disposed within the housing and movable with respect to the slot. The cannula hub may include a tab extending through the slot. The vascular access system may include a cannula extending distally from the cannula hub. In response to the tab being disposed within the notch, a distal tip of the cannula may be disposed within the housing. In response to advancing the tab along the slot to a distal end of the slot, the distal tip of the cannula is disposed distal to the distal end of the housing.

Abstract: A blood collection device to prime a blood flow path may include a cannula, a holder, and an elastomeric sleeve. The cannula may include a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending along a longitudinal axis therebetween. The cannula may include a slot to enable a user to visualize the blood flow path through the cannula. The holder may include a channel configured to align with the longitudinal axis to retain a shaft of the cannula. The holder may further include a visual check window corresponding to the slot of the cannula. The elastomeric sleeve may be coupled to the holder and enclose the proximal end of the cannula. A priming opening may be disposed between the elastomeric sleeve and the holder to prime the blood flow path.

Abstract: A septum may include a housing and a hollow body that slides with respect to the housing from a closed position to an open position. The hollow body may include one or more holes. The septum may include a first seal coupled to the distal end and a second seal coupled to the proximal end. In response to the hollow body being in the closed position, the second seal may block a proximal opening of the housing, and the holes may be disposed within the housing. In response to the hollow body sliding from the closed position to the open position, the holes may be disposed distal to the housing, and the second seal may be removed from the proximal opening of the housing such that fluid may flow proximally into the plurality of holes and through the proximal opening of the housing.

Abstract: A catheter system to protect against needle stick injuries and environmental contamination from exposure to residual blood. The catheter system may include a catheter assembly, a needle assembly, and a housing. The needle assembly may be coupled to the catheter assembly and include a needle hub and an introducer needle. The housing may be secured within a lumen of the catheter adapter and may include a distal end, a proximal end, and a cavity. The introducer needle may extend through the housing. A safety clip within the cavity may include an elongated arm portion and a barrier feature. The introducer needle may bias the barrier feature outwardly away from a longitudinal axis of the introducer needle. In response to proximal retraction of the introducer needle, the barrier feature may be configured to move toward the longitudinal axis of the needle and shield the sharp distal tip.
