Abstract: An intravenous (IV) catheter assembly may include a catheter adapter and a catheter extending from the distal end of the catheter adapter. The intravenous (IV) catheter assembly may include an introducer needle. The elongated shaft may include a flashback notch, and the flashback notch may include a distal end and a proximal end. The flashback notch may include a smooth tapered edge extending from the distal end in a direction that increases a depth of the flashback notch. The smooth tapered edge may extend along at least half of an entire length of the flashback notch between the distal end and the proximal end. In an orthogonal side view projection of the intravenous catheter assembly, every tangent to the smooth tapered edge may be at an angle of 30° or less with respect to a longitudinal axis of the introducer needle

Abstract: A vascular access system which may be configured for blood draw may include a housing, which may include a distal end, a proximal end, and a slot disposed between the distal end and the proximal end. The slot may include a notch. The vascular access system may include a cannula hub, which may be disposed within the housing and movable with respect to the slot. The cannula hub may include a tab extending through the slot. The vascular access system may include a cannula extending distally from the cannula hub. In response to the tab being disposed within the notch, a distal tip of the cannula may be disposed within the housing. In response to advancing the tab along the slot to a distal end of the slot, the distal tip of the cannula is disposed distal to the distal end of the housing.

Abstract: A vascular access device adapter allowing for interchangeable connections between separate components of a larger extravascular system while minimizing exposure to non-sterile environments in point-of-care testing and analysis is provided. The vascular access device adapter includes a body having a self-healing puncturable septum secured by an end cap by which hollow small gauge needles may extract or deposit fluid. The adapter device further includes an end cap enclosing the septum, the end cap having ribs which removably secure the adapter to the inner housing of a sample collection device.

Abstract: A catheter assembly may include a catheter adapter, which may include a distal end, a proximal end, a lumen extending through the distal end of the catheter adapter and the proximal end of the catheter adapter, and a side port disposed between the distal end of the catheter adapter and the proximal end of the catheter adapter. The catheter assembly may include a catheter extending distally from the distal end of the catheter adapter. The catheter assembly may include a valve disposed within the lumen. The catheter assembly may include a retainer element configured to secure the annular valve within the lumen. The retainer element may be disposed within the lumen proximal to a proximal end of the annular valve.

Abstract: An insert for a catheter system may include a distal end, a proximal end, and a middle portion disposed between the distal end and the proximal end. The distal end of the insert may include a male port, and the proximal end of the insert may include a female port opposite the male port. The insert may be configured to extend through an adapter and/or a needleless connector of a catheter system to reduce exposure of the adapter and/or the needleless connector to blood, which may flow through a lumen of the insert. The lumen of the insert may extend through the male port, the middle portion, and the female port.
