摘要: The present invention provides devices and methods for suturing a tissue layer having two sides with a suture by releasably retaining at least a portion of the suture in a stationary position on one side of the tissue layer. The portion of the suture is retrieved through the tissue layer from the opposite side whereby the suture is drawn from one side to the opposite side. Devices and methods for suturing the wall of a tubular graft having two sides is also provided using a suture by releasably retaining at least a portion of the suture on one side of the wall. The portion of the length of suture is retrieved through the wall of the graft to the opposite side of the wall. A graft anastomosis assembly provided herein sutures a tubular graft about an aperture in a tissue wall using a suture, a tissue suturing and graft suturing devices. Fastener types other than sutures are useful with the present invention whereby a first fastener portion is releasably retained in a stationary position on one side of a tissue layer while a second fastener portion is driven through the tissue layer from the opposite side and securely engages the two portions together.

摘要: According to one embodiment of the invention, a financial instrument includes a first tax-deferred account and first, second, and third guarantees. The first tax-deferred account has an account balance based in part on a deduction from wages paid to an employee. The first guarantee is a guarantee of a first protected value based upon a deposit growing at a minimum growth rate The second guarantee is a guarantee that a beneficiary may periodically receive a transfer of an amount of money for the life of the employee. The third guarantee is a guarantee that the first protected value may be transferred with the first tax-deferred account to a separate financial instrument including a second tax-deferred account, a fourth guarantee of a second protected value, and a fifth guarantee that a beneficiary may periodically receive a transfer of an amount of money for the life of the employee.

摘要: Methods and devices use magnetic force to form a magnetic port in a hollow body. Additional methods and devices form anastomoses between two or more hollow bodies. First and second anastomotic securing components create a fluid-tight connection between the lumens of the hollow bodies. End-to-side, side-to-side and end-to-end anastomoses can be created without using suture or any other type of mechanical fasteners, although mechanical attachment structure may be used in conjunction with the magnetic attachment. The securing components have magnetic, ferromagnetic or electromagnetic properties and may include one or more materials, for example, magnetic and nonmagnetic materials arranged in a laminated structure. The system of anastomotic securing components may be used in many different applications including the treatment of cardiovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease, forming AV shunts, etc. The system may be sized and configured for forming an anastomosis in or between a specific hollow body, for example, a coronary artery, the aorta, a radial artery, etc.

摘要: A computer-implemented method for facilitating the management of a financial instrument includes determining an account balance for a financial account. The financial account includes an investment portfolio and a springing guarantee of an income base for a retirement income. The retirement income includes periodic monetary transfers to be commenced at a target retirement date. Each periodic monetary transfer has a respective value based on the income base. The springing guarantee of the income base may be activated on an activation date. The account balance is stored in memory of the data processing system. The stored account balance is periodically updated based at least in part on market performance of the investment portfolio. Using a computing system, the activation date is determined based at least in part on the target retirement date and the income base is determined. A respective value is outputted for each one of the periodic monetary transfers. The respective value of each one of the periodic monetary transfers is based on the value of the stored income base at a time proximate the one of the periodic monetary transfers.
