摘要： A touch input device and method for a portable device that is capable of inputting various user commands with diversified touch events detected on a touch screen is provided. A touch input method for a mobile terminal having a touch screen may include displaying a plurality of representative images representing content objects on the touch screen, selecting at least one representative image in response to a first command designated for a first touch event on the touch screen, and executing a second command designated for a second touch event on the touch screen. The second touch event may be defined by a movement direction, speed, a lift position of a touch, and the representative images selected by the first command.

If a finger touches and moves in a specific direction on a keypad having a touch sensor, a touch is detected by the touch sensor and a type of touch direction is identified by a control unit according to the angle of a touch direction. A screen of a display unit is partitioned into a plurality of blocks, and a screen highlight is located at a specific block. The control unit for moving the screen highlight on the display unit according to the type of the touch direction. A path of the screen highlight is set in one of a forward direction with continuous movement, a forward direction with discontinuous movement, a backward direction with continuous movement, and a backward direction with discontinuous movement. A user interface according to the present invention can include a pointer in the display unit, the pointer being controlled by linking a pointer position with a touch position.

The method allows information related to a mobile terminal to be consistently displayed at a preset position while performing a specific function of the mobile terminal, thus enabling simultaneous display of the specific function and of information stored in the mobile terminal.

摘要： Provided is a method of controlling a pointer, such as changing between a pointer mode for activating the pointer and a search key mode for deactivating the pointer, in a mobile terminal having a pointing device. The method of controlling a pointer includes detecting movement input by the pointing device; identifying whether the detected movement satisfies a condition of changing a display mode; if the detected movement satisfies a condition of changing a display mode, displaying the pointer by changing the current display mode to a pointer mode; identifying whether a specific key is input; and if the specific key is input, hiding the pointer by changing the current display mode to a search key mode. Additionally, if elapsed time measured after displaying the pointer exceeds a predetermined value, the display mode of the mobile terminal may automatically be changed to a search key mode.
