Abstract: An electrophysiology catheter, e.g., a coronary sinus catheter, for insertion into a cardiac vessel, such as the coronary sinus, includes a handle and a catheter shaft coupled at one end to the handle. The catheter shaft has a distal end and an anchor is associated with the catheter shaft and is movable between a deployed position and a collapsed position. In the deployed position, the anchor extends radially outward from an outer surface of the catheter shaft for contacting a wall and temporarily anchoring the catheter shaft within the coronary sinus. The catheter also includes an actuator for causing deployment and collapsing of the anchor upon manipulation of the actuator.

Abstract: A steerable elongate medical device includes a composite shaft and a handle that is removably securable to the composite shaft. The composite shaft includes a first shaft component and a second shaft component. The composite shaft bends in a first direction when the first shaft component is heated above a transition temperature and bends in the first direction. The composite shaft bends in an opposing second direction when the second shaft component is heated above the transition temperature and bends in the second direction. The handle enables a user to selectively pass an electrical current through either of the first shaft component or the shaft component in order to electrically heat the selected shaft component.

An ablation electrode is located at the distal end of the shaft. A mapping region including a plurality of mini-electrode sets disposed about the shaft is located proximal to the ablation electrode. Each of the mini-electrode sets includes a plurality of mini-electrodes. The ablation catheter further includes a deflection region proximate to or within the mapping region.
