摘要: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for marking and cutting a flexible web that can be supplied from a supply roll of material onto a generally flat working surface or bed to a take-up roll. While the present invention is particularly adapted for marking and cutting fabric, such as may be used to manufacture upholstered furniture, such as couches, love seats, chairs and the like, the invention may also be used to mark and cut almost any flexible web, and particularly any web that is susceptible of experiencing dimensional distortion, such as bowing, skewing or stretching in unusual directions. The apparatus utilizes computer control and video imaging to identify design features and to locate them relative to pieces so that the item of furniture has design features at the desired locations.

摘要: Method and apparatus for making aesthetically pleasing and novel quilting including intricate artistic stitching-patterns. The quilting results from a preferably tri-laminar layup having a resiliently-compressible foam layer sandwiched between relatively thin facing and base fabric sheets. The method utilizes a tabletop for supporting the layup, at least one sewing machine head overlying and associated with the tabletop, and gripper means for frictionally engaging non-peripheral areas of the layup for shifting same along the tabletop relative to the sewing head according to successive command means. Utilizing a primary sewing-command means for the gripper, a primary-design portion of the overall stitching-pattern is made within a primary-area of the layup; then, utilizing a reposition-command means, the gripper shifts the layup so as to bring a layup secondary-area toward the sewing head; and next, utilizing a secondary sewing-command means for the gripper, another portion of the overall stitching-pattern is made outside the layup primary-area.

摘要: A comprehensive inventory and sales control system is particularly adapted for the segment of the furniture industry that involves special order items, such as sofas, love seats, upholstered chairs and the like. The system is adapted to provide instant communications between retail establishments and a manufacturer, and enables the order to be confirmed at the time of purchase. This includes a determination of the availability of the fabric and reserving the item style and fabric from the manufacturer's stock, thereby enabling the manufacturer to determine and the customer to know the anticipated delivery date for the item that has been purchased. The system also enables a point of sale establishment to maintain a set of fabric swatches or samples of the fabrics that are currently available, thereby minimizing the possibility that a customer would order an item and a fabric that is not currently available. Additionally, the system also has the capability of updating the inventory of available fabrics and a plurality of fabric swatches at each establishment, and a means for scanning bar coded labels that are attached to the swatches, wherein the scanning means has sound producing means that permits quick and easy control of the inventory of swatches.

摘要: A method and apparatus is disclosed for cutting a sculptured pattern in carpet pile. The apparatus has a carpet clipping head carried by a carriage means that can move the clipping head horizontally, vertically and rotationally. Instructions from memory associated with a computer cause the carriage to move the carpet clipper along a predetermined route to cut the sculptured pattern in the carpet. The apparatus also senses the temperature of the clipping head and shuts off the apparatus if overheating occurs. A vacuum mechanism is provided to remove carpet cuttings during operation. The apparatus also dispenses lubricating fluid to the clipper head.

摘要: An encasement to enclose a mattress base includes a base panel with side panels extendable from the base panel. A first fastener extends around the side panels, and a first panel is fastenable to the side panels by the first fastener to define a first enclosure. The encasement also includes absorbent foam (e.g., resilient or viscoelastic foam, which may be reticulated and/or attached to a substrate). A second fastener also extends around the side panels, and a second panel is fastenable to the side panels by the second fastener to define a second enclosure to enclose the absorbent foam. The second panel can be constructed from a breathable and at least substantially waterproof material. The absorbent foam can be configured to be received in a front-loading washing machine (e.g., including multiple foam panels arranged in layers).

摘要: A high speed microfilm searching system is disclosed. The system optically displays frames of the microfilm. A frame or column of microfilm is made up of a sensor mark, pages of information and an index code. The index code is a meaningful alphanumeric or numeric key that accompanies each page or column. If it is alphabetic it varies in strict alphabetic sequence. If the components of the key are numeric they vary in an increasing or decreasing order. Microfilm projecting means mounted in the filmpath between feed and take-up reels clearly display on a viewing screen a page of information when the microfilm is stationary in accordance with existing technology. The high speed search system is new technology. A strobe lamp displays indexes of the moving microfilm on a screen. Each of the frames having an index of digital form and also has an optically detectable marker. The marker is placed in a fixed position with respect to the digit positions of the index to insure accurate strobing without the need for masks or shutters. Electronic control means is optically responsive to each marker to generate a marker signal which can trigger the strobe and display the index of that page, like a movie picture. At very low microfilm retrieval speeds each character of the index is legible so that all of the characters of the index can be read by the user. At increasingly high retrieval speeds only more significant characters can be read because of the rapid change of the low order characters. At the increasingly higher speeds the electronic control means may be only responsive to every second, third, fourth, etc. marker signal. As the desired index comes into range, whether going forward or backward, the viewer operator slows the speed of the microfilm so that more of the characters of the index can be read. When the desired index is very close, the film is moved very slowly so that all of the characters of each index can be read. This film is then stopped on the desired frame so that the contents of the page can be read on the viewing screen.
