Abstract: 864,685. Storing liquefied gases. CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd. June 23, 1959 [July 1, 1958 ; July 7, 1958], No. 21451/59. Class 8(2). A liquefied gas e.g., methane storage tank 14, Fig. 1, is lined with a plurality of downwardly inclined spaced superposed louvres 36 each overlapping the upper end portion of the adjacent lower louvre so as to provide vapour pockets 38 adjacent the vertical wall 16 of the tank which may be of circular or rectangular cross-section having its bottom 18 lined with cork or aerogel heat insulating material 40 in which are embedded metal pans 20 having upturned rims 28 extending between the lowermost louvres 36. Thermal expansion of the louvres is accommodated by a plurality of radially extending circumferentially spaced corrugations. In a modification the lower ends of louvres 36 Fig. 14 have skirts 110 which assisted by baffles 118 serve to support heat insulation material 112 held in porous bags 114.
