Abstract: The motor case has a cylindrical sidewall which receives and centers the dividerlike gearcase pressed into the motor case. The cover is centered by and seats on the motor case which is staked to retain the cover without transfer of staking pressures to the gearcase. Since the motor case centers the gear case and the cover, concentricity is readily attained and shafts journaled in the parts are assured alignment.

Abstract: The coil bobbin has a terminal support integral with one end flange. The terminals are inserted into the terminal slots in the support after the wire is wound on the bobbin. The slots are tapered so the terminal end which passes through the slot must be forced and a seal around the terminal results. The seal prevents leakage past the terminal when the coil is encapsulated. The bobbin interior forms a core guide and the bobbin includes projecting integral guides for the solenoid core, thus eliminating the usual metal guides. One side flange of each guide is cut back to receive a tang of a metal bracket. The tang serves to hold the core in place and projects into the groove on the side of the core to function as a core stop when the end of the groove hits the tang.

Abstract: The Y-shaped stop device frictionally engages the gear shaft and tends to rotate with the gear. The freedom of movement of the device is restricted by the selector to permit a selected arm of the Y to be effective. If the pinion gear starts in the wrong direction, the stop wing carried by the rotor will strike the effective arm which has been frictionally rotated into a position which insures optimum starting conditions for rotation in the desired direction. Upon engagement the rotor starts in the desired direction and the friction acting on the stop device moves the arm clear of the path of the stop wings. The selector limits movement of the stop device to keep the other arm clear of the stop wings.
