摘要: The present disclosure provides optical fibers that exhibit low macrobend loss at 1550 nm at bend diameters greater than 40 mm. The relative refractive index profile of the fibers includes a trench cladding region having a trench volume configured to minimize macrobend loss at large bend diameters. The thickness and/or depth of the trench cladding region are controlled to reduce trench volume to a degree consistent with reducing macrobend loss at bend diameters greater than 40 mm. The optical fiber includes an outer cladding region that surrounds and is directly adjacent to the trench cladding region and an optional offset cladding region between the trench cladding region and the core region. In some embodiments, the core region is a segmented core region that includes inner and outer core regions. The low macrobend loss available from the optical fibers makes them particularly suitable for applications in submarine telecommunications systems.

摘要: An optical fiber includes a core region of silica glass doped with an alkali metal oxide. A depressed-index cladding region surrounds the core region and comprises silica glass doped with a first concentration of fluorine. The depressed-index cladding region has a minimum relative refractive index Δ3min in a range from −0.80% to −0.30%. An outer cladding region comprises silica glass doped with a second, lesser concentration. The outer cladding region has a relative refractive index Δ4, where Δ4−Δ3min>0.05%. The optical fiber has a time-to-peak hydrogen aging value at 23° C. of less than 100 hours upon exposure to an atmosphere having a total pressure of 1 atm and containing a partial pressure of 0.01 atm H2 and a partial pressure of 0.99 atm N2. The optical fiber exhibits an attenuation

摘要: A single mode optical fiber having a core made from silica and less than or equal to about 6.5 weight % germania and having a maximum relative refractive index Δ1MAX. The optical fiber also has an inner cladding surrounding the core and having a minimum relative refractive index Δ2MIN. A difference between a softening point of the core and a softening point of the inner cladding is less than or equal to about 20° C., and Δ1MAX>Δ2MIN. The single mode optical fiber may also have an outer cladding surrounding the inner cladding made from silica or SiON. The outer cladding has a maximum relative refractive index Δ3MAX, and Δ3MAX>Δ2MIN. A method for manufacturing an optical fiber includes providing a preform to a first furnace, the preform, drawing the optical fiber from the preform, and cooling the drawn optical fiber in a second furnace.
