    摘要: In embodiments, a mode selective optical fiber coupler may include a first propagation waveguide and a second propagation waveguide joined along a coupling length L. The first propagation waveguide and the second propagation waveguide may be tapered from an input face and an output face of the coupler to a midpoint of the coupler. An LP01 mode of an optical signal with a wavelength of 800-950 nm coupled into the first propagation waveguide propagates through the first propagation waveguide and is emitted from the first propagation waveguide. An LP01 loss of the coupler at the output face is less than 1.0 dB. An LP11 mode of the optical signal coupled into the first propagation waveguide is cross-coupled to the second propagation waveguide and is emitted from the second propagation waveguide. An LP11 loss of the coupler at the output face is less than 1.5 dB.

    摘要: A LIDAR device for a vehicle includes an integrated chip. The integrated chip includes a substrate layer, a cladding layer, a waveguide, a scattering array, and a reflector layer. The cladding layer is disposed on the substrate layer to form an interface with the substrate layer. The waveguide is disposed within the cladding layer and configured to route an infrared optical field. The scattering array is disposed within the cladding layer between the waveguide and the interface and perturbs the infrared optical field and scatters the infrared optical field into a first beam propagating toward a surface of the cladding layer and into a second beam propagating towards the interface. The reflector layer is disposed within the cladding layer between the waveguide and the surface of the cladding layer to reflect the first beam towards the interface.

    摘要: An optically transparent protective coating is described that remains stable at elevated temperatures associated with optical fiber-based sensor applications and is sufficiently transparent to allow for conventional fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) to be formed by directly writing through the coating. In particular, vinyl group-containing silicone polymers have been found to provide the UV transparency required for a write-through coating (WTC) and promising mechanical properties for protecting the optical fibers, while also being able to withstand elevated temperatures for extended periods of time.

    摘要: An optical fiber manufacturing apparatus includes a rotating mechanism including a holding member that holds one side of an optical fiber and a rotating member that rotates the holding member, the optical fiber including a glass fiber portion and a coating layer covering the glass fiber portion; a guiding member secured at a distance from the rotating mechanism and configured to retain the other side of the optical fiber loosely fitted therein; and a heating mechanism configured to heat a part of the glass fiber portion exposed and extending out of the coating layer, the part being interposed between the holding member and the guiding member. By rotating the rotating member counterclockwise by a given angle, the glass fiber portion is drawn from the guiding member and bent with a predetermined curvature while being heated.

    摘要: A plastic optical fiber ribbon excellent in efficiency for positioning to V grooves is provided. The ribbon contains plural plastic optical fibers integrated by a collective coating and arranged so that their center axes are parallel to one another in the same plane. At least one outer surface in the thickness direction of the ribbon has a mountain-valley shape following the outer surfaces of the plastic optical fibers, in which an inclined portion is present where the thickness of the collective coating gradually increases in a direction from the peak toward the valley of the mountain, and in a cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the ribbon, a central angle of the sector formed by connecting an arc from the apex of the mountain to the starting point of the inclined portion and a center of the plastic optical fiber is from 30 to 80°.

    摘要: A transversal load insensitive optical waveguide includes a primary section having a core. The waveguide may further include an outer cladding. The primary section includes a primary section surface and the outer cladding includes an exterior surface mechanically attached to the primary section surface by an interior cladding structure forming a mechanical connection. The cladding structure is such that for at least part of a distance between each two radial corresponding points on the exterior surface and the primary section surface respectively, the mechanical connection deviates from being radial, so that a radially-directed load on an exterior surface of the outer cladding is deflected by the cladding structure.
