Abstract:
The present invention relates to a lubricant composition containing a base stock and at least 0.01 wt % of a friction reducing additive which is a compound of the Formula (I): R1[(AO)n—R2]m (I) wherein R1 is the residue of a group having at least 2 active hydrogen atoms; m is at least 2; AO is an alkylene oxide residue; each n is independently from 0 to 100; and each R2 is independently H or R3, where each R3 is independently a residue of a polyhydroxyalkyl or polyhydroxyalkenyl carboxylic acid, a residue of a hydroxyalkyl or hydroxyalkenyl carboxylic acid and/or a residue of an oligomer of the hydroxyalkyl or hydroxyalkenyl carboxylic acid; and on average at least 0.5 of R2 groups are R3. The lubricant composition is suitable for use in an engine oil, a hydraulic oil or fluid, a gear oil and/or a metal-working fluid.
Abstract:
A method of inhibiting asphaltene precipitation and/or deposition in a hydrocarbon, preferably crude oil, by adding to the hydrocarbon a polyester asphaltene dispersing agent which is the reaction product of an alk(en)yl substituted succinic anhydride wherein the average number of succinic groups per alk(en)yl group is less than 2.0, and at least one polyol.
Abstract:
A lubricating composition comprises an amide and at least one additive. The amide is the reaction product of a secondary, branched amine and a carboxylic acid. The carboxylic acid may be a monocarboxylic acid or a dicarboxylic acid, including dimer acid. The amide is hydrolytically stable, and may be used to increase the hydrolytic stability of the lubricant composition. Alternatively, the amide may be used to increase the additive solubility or detergency of the lubricant composition.
Abstract:
A method of separating oil from a composition containing an oil and water emulsion, by adding a separation additive which is a fatty ester of alkoxylated glycerol, and performing at least one oil separation step. The method is particularly suitable for separating corn oil from stillage produced in a corn ethanol mill.
