Abstract:
A break-away fitting facilitates installation and removal of a pump in wet well system, along at least one guide rail. When installed, the fitting mates an outlet of the pump to an outlet pipe of to wet well. The fitting has a body with a first and a second surface, the surfaces arranged to be substantially perpendicular to each other. A flanged opening in the first surface is sized and adapted for attaching the body to the outlet flange of the pump. The second surface has indentations for engaging the at least one guide rail, so that the body slides in the vertical channel. To minimize the dangers from static electricity in the wet well, the body may be formed from a non-sparking material, such as brass or bronze, or a surface of the indentations may be covered by a non-sparking material, including high-density polyethylene or poly(tetrafluoroethylene).
Abstract:
A terminal board includes an attachment portion engageable with an end cap and defines an attachment plane that is substantially parallel to an end plane defined by the end cap, and a first terminal portion adapted to receive a first terminal wire. The first terminal portion defines a first terminal plane that intersects the end plane to define an included angle. The included angle is between about 40 degrees and 80 degrees.
Abstract:
An electric motor includes a stator, a housing supporting the stator and having a bearing seat with an inner surface and an inner end, a bearing having an outer surface, a shaft rotatably supported by the bearing, and a rotor supported by the shaft. The motor also includes a tolerance ring having an interior surface, an exterior surface disposed against the bearing seat inner surface, and a plurality of elastic corrugations. Each of the elastic corrugations projects radially from the interior surface, defining a shoulder section disposed between the bearing and the inner end of the bearing seat. The shoulder section generates a spring force against the bearing to axially and radially support the bearing and to axially preload the bearing.
Abstract:
An electric motor having an integrally formed bonding apparatus that allows an installer to quickly and efficiently bond the electric motor to a bonding grid of a bonding area. A fastener having a head is inserted into an aperture of the housing of the electric motor such that a bonding conductor is captured between the housing and the head. The bonding conductor is electrically coupled to the housing via direct contact between the bonding conductor and the housing and/or via indirect contact through the fastener. An integrally formed surface of the housing prevents the bonding conductor from moving out from under the head.
Abstract:
A method of assembling a motor and pump assembly. The machine or pump assembly includes an electric motor having a housing, an end frame and a bolt extending through the housing and the end frame to secure the housing and the end frame together. The end frame includes a through-bore having an inner diameter. The bolt has a major diameter that is greater than the inner diameter of the through-bore so that when the bolt is turned into the through-bore, the bolt creates threads in the through-bore of the end frame. When the electric motor is placed next to the housing, the bolt is turned to strip the threads in the through-bore and screw the bolt into the housing of the pump apparatus.
Abstract:
A pedestal sump pump includes a motor with a housing and a water-level-response system attached to the motor. The water-level-response system includes a connecting rod with upper and lower limit stops, a float, and a switch assembly mounted partially within the motor housing. The assembly includes a switch housing and a lever pivotably mounted to the switch housing such that the lever can be toggled between on and off positions. The lever includes an aperture in the first end of the lever and a cam surface on the second end of the lever. The assembly also includes a retainer clip removably attached to the housing to retaining the lever in place, the clip including a spring tab to force the lever into one of the on and off positions, and a microswitch removably mounted in the switch housing.
Abstract:
A scroll type fluid handling apparatus, such as a refrigeration compressor, has co-rotating driver and idler scroll members supported for rotation about offset, generally parallel axes. The idler scroll member has a support shaft which is supported on the compressor housing by a pivot bushing having an eccentric pivot axis which permits radially compliant movement of the idler scroll along a line of action which is predetermined to provide a component of a resultant force acting between the scroll members which will urge the idler scroll wrap into engagement with the driver scroll wrap under a wide range of operating conditions to enhance the contact line seal between the scroll wraps. The idler scroll support shaft may have a bearing bore sleeved over a bearing surface on the pivot bushing and the pivot bushing supported on a stub shaft of the housing, or the idler scroll support shaft may be disposed in a bearing bore formed in the bushing which, in turn, is mounted for limited rotation in a bearing bore formed in the housing stub shaft part. Cooperating stop surfaces between the pivot bushing and the housing stub shaft limit the radial excursion of the idler scroll and its support shaft with respect to the driver scroll. The idler scroll support shaft may also be mounted in a bushing disposed in a channel or supported on an elongated trunnion which provides for linear translation of the bushing, the support shaft and the idler scroll along the line of action and responsive to the resultant force.
Abstract:
A motor assembly comprises a first end frame, a second end frame including at least one air outlet aperture, an air shroud surrounding a stator between the first end frame and the second end frame, the air shroud cooperating with the stator to form at least one air passage, and cooperating with the first end frame to form at least one air inlet aperture. The motor assembly also comprises a fan mounted on the rotating shaft, the fan operable to generate an air flow of ambient air through the at least one air inlet aperture, the at least one air passage and the at least one air outlet aperture.
Abstract:
A strain relief clip for use on an electric motor including an end frame and an electrical power supply cord having an internal junction end. With the cord extending over the end frame, the clip, which includes a resilient spring tab, is mounted over the cord without feeding or inserting the cord into the clip. The clip is mounted to the end frame without the use of any other common fasteners. The cord is captured between the clip and the end frame such that the resilient spring tab engages the cord to relieve stress or strain on the internal junction end.
Abstract:
A pumping apparatus includes a housing having an inlet at a first end and an outlet at an opposite second end. An encapsulated stator defines an opening and is supported by the housing. A pressure plate includes diffuser vanes formed as part of the pressure plate. The pressure plate is formed as part of the encapsulated stator. A rotor is positioned at least partially within the opening and is rotatable with respect to the stator and an impeller is coupled to the rotor and cooperates with the pressure plate and the housing to pump a fluid from the inlet to the outlet in response to rotation of the rotor.
