A method of driving a machine related to printing technology, wherein movable elements forming a kinematic chain are coupled with one another via at least one gear mechanism, includes infeeding torque components by a respective motor of at least one group of two motors, respectively located at least at two elements associated with one another. The torque components are of equal amplitude but have opposite directions of rotation, for suppressing disruptive oscillations at least at the one group of two motors. The amplitude of the torque components is proportional to relative rotation of the two elements associated with one another. Rotary encoders are provided to obtain signals for reproducing rotational positions of the elements.

For the active compensation of oscillations in a machine which processes printing material, a signal which contains an oscillation of the machine or of a part of the machine is measured and at least one counter torque is introduced into the machine to reduce the oscillation. At least one measure for a ratio between the amplitude of the uncompensated oscillation and the amplitude of the counter torque necessary for complete compensation is compared with a threshold value. The counter torque is determined in a first functional relationship with the oscillation if the measure is greater than the threshold value, and the counter torque is determined in a second functional relationship with the oscillation, if the measure is smaller than the threshold value. In the machine, a regulating device is operated in a first or second operating mode in dependence on the measure of the ratio.

A method and apparatus for separating at least two bridges, especially gripper bars, of a segmented transport system for printing materials, e.g. sheets of paper in a printing press, include a transport system having a segmented electric linear drive with first and second primary parts constructed as segmented long-stator. The drive has a plurality of secondary parts constructed as carriages. Each secondary part assigned to the first primary part and each secondary part assigned to the second primary part are coupled by a crossmember to form a movable bridge. Two bridges in the same segment are moved jointly. A first bridge, reaching into a further segment due to jointly controlled movement, is moved individually under closed-loop control and separated from a second bridge, for locating the two bridges in different segments during further movement. Electrical and mechanical collisions of the bridges or of the carriages can therefore be eliminated.
