摘要: An electrode position detection system for a welder having a laser that is projected in a lateral plane to laterally cross a welding wire at a location below a contact tip of a welding gun and a receiver that receive the laser bean after crossing the welding wire, and a measuring device that determines one or more parameter of the welding wire based on the received laser beam. Arc voltage measurements can also be used to determine one or more parameter of the welding wire.

摘要: A system and method for welding with a first and second arc between a first and second electrode, respectively, and a common workpiece, where each of the electrodes is driven by a single power source, where there is a first inductor connected in series with the first electrode and a second inductor connected in series with the second electrode and each of the inductors has sufficient inductive reactance to store enough energy to maintain an existing arc associated with one of the electrodes for a selected general time with essentially no current to the one electrode.

摘要: An electric arc welding apparatus for depositing molten metal from an advancing welding wire into a weld puddle in an open root between two juxtapositioned plates where the root extends in a welding path and is formed by converging walls terminating in generally parallel walls spaced to define a gap, which apparatus comprises a contact holder with a wire outlet, a switching power supply directing welding current to the wire as the wire passes from the outlet toward the open root, with the advancing wire defining an electrode stick out between the contact holder and the weld puddle, a circuit for sensing the length of the stick out, and control means for adjusting the welding current as a function of the sensed stick out length.

摘要: Apparatus, devices, and methods for providing a voltage reduction capability in a welding power source for safety purposes. The resistive load and the output voltage of the welding power source output are monitored and compared to predefined or preselected threshold values to generate a load condition signal and an output voltage condition signal (e.g., logic signals). The load condition signal and the output voltage condition signal serve as inputs to a voltage reduction device control logic which generates control signals to enable and disable the input and output of the welding power source according to the defined control logic. As a result, an extra measure of safety in preventing electrical shock is provided to users of the welding power source during hazardous operating conditions.

摘要: An auxiliary OCV boost circuit for the power source of an electric arc welder to perform a welding process between an electrode and a workpiece, which power source has a main positive voltage output with a first voltage and a main negative voltage output with a second voltage. The boost circuit comprises a source of positive boost voltage substantially greater than the first voltage, a first switch to add the positive boost voltage to the main positive voltage, a source of negative boost voltage substantially greater than the second voltage, a second switch to add the negative boot voltage to the main negative voltage and a switch control device activated to selectively enable the first and second switches. This OCV boost circuit can be selectively operated in DC mode wherein only the main and boost voltages of one polarity is implemented.

摘要: An electric arc welding apparatus comprising at least a first consumable electrode and a second consumable electrode movable in unison along a welding path between the edges of two adjacent, mutually grounded plates, a first power supply for passing a first welding current at a first low frequency between the first electrode and the two plates, a second power supply for passing a second welding current at a second low frequency between the second electrode and the two plates, where each of the power supplies includes a three phase voltage input operated at line frequency, a rectifier to convert the input voltage to a DC voltage link and a high frequency switching type inverter converting the DC voltage link to a high frequency AC current, an output rectifier circuit to provide a positive voltage terminal and a negative voltage terminal, and an output switching network operated at a given low frequency for directing a pulsating welding current at the given low frequency from the two terminals across one of the electrodes and the plates, and a circuit for independently adjusting the given low frequency so the value of the first low frequency of the first power supply is different from the second low frequency of the second power supply.

摘要: A power supply connectable to a source of AC line voltage for AC electric arc welding by an AC arc current across a welding gap between an electrode and a workpiece, the power supply comprises a high capacity transformer that converts said line voltage to an AC output voltage, and a rectifier that converts the AC output voltage to a DC voltage between a positive terminal and a common terminal at generally zero volts and a negative terminal and the common terminal. The power supply has a first switch that connects the positive terminal to the common terminal across the gap when a gate signal is applied to the first switch, a second switch for connecting the negative terminal to the common terminal across the gap when a gate signal is applied to the second switch and a pulse width modulator operated for generating pulses at a frequency of at least about 18 kHz. A logic network has a first circuit for directing the pulses to the first switch for a first time, a second circuit for directing the pulses to the second switch for a second time and a controller to alternately operate first and second circuits to create AC arc welding current.
