摘要: The invention describes a method of continuously controlling and tracking a position of a welding torch (10) and welding head relative to a weld seam to be produced on a workpiece (16), whereby the welding torch (10), spaced at a distance apart from a workpiece (16) and the weld seam, effects a pendulum motion which is superimposed on its linear welding motion, during which state variables, in particular an ohmic resistance or a current and/or a voltage, are detected as they change in time. The lateral deviation of the welding torch (10) from the weld seam, in particular from the welding line centre, and/or the height of the welding torch (10) above the workpiece (16) and the welding head are derived from the detected actual values and signals in order to control and track the position of the welding torch (10). Depending on periodically occurring process phases of a welding process, the measurement value detection routine for at least one measurement signal, in particular to detect the state variable, is run at fixed instants and/or states of the periodically recurring process phases of the welding process.

摘要: The sensor arrangement according to the invention serves to determine the spacing from a non-magnetic or ferro-magnetic article. In addition, it seeks to make it possible to determine the relative position of the sensor with respect to irregularities on the article such as gaps or holes. The inductive sensor arrangement has an oscillator which feeds a transmitting coil which in turn induces alternating current, in dependence on the relative position with respect to the article, in a receiving component coil. By virtue of the transmitting and/or receiving component coil being in the form of a metal layer on at least one surface of a laminar coil carrier, it is possible substantially to improve measuring accuracy and also the degree of sensitivity of the sensor arrangement.

摘要: A method and apparatus for automatic weld line tracing using a non-contact sensor for detection of a weld line, which sensor is continuously reciprocated across the groove. Signals produced from the sensor during the reciprocation are compared at the ends of the groove, and the lower voltage value of the two signals is determined. A value lower than the lower voltage of the two signals by .delta. is predetermined and the position associated with the value is detected by a displacement-measuring instrument, the output of which is utilized for control of the positions of a welding torch.

摘要: An adaptive control hybrid welding system including hybrid welding apparatus, control system connected to hybrid welding apparatus, and seam tracker connected to control system is provided. Hybrid welding apparatus includes a laser and an electric arc welder. Laser and electric arc welder each have adjustable welding parameters. Control system modifies welding parameters of laser and electric arc welder, and spacing between laser beam and arc of welder. Seam tracker is operable to measure seam property of adjacent workpieces prior to welding. Seam tracker is operable to send signals to control system in response to the measured seam property. Control system modifies welding parameters based on signal from seam tracker and adaptive control hybrid welding apparatus joins adjacent workpieces having variable gap sizes of up to 2.5 mm with full penetration welds. Also provided is a method of controlling the adaptive control hybrid welding system.

摘要: An apparatus, system and related method are disclosed for sensing a characteristic of a workpiece, such as the location of a welding seam, using a sensor that is independent of another device for performing an operation on the workpiece, such as a welding torch for welding a seam. The sensor preferably takes the form of a plasma arc torch. This plasma arc torch travels along the workpiece, preferably just ahead of the welder for welding the workpiece or other implement and simultaneously moves to and fro in a direction transverse to the direction of travel of the welder. A non-transferred electrical arc serves to ionize a plasma gas issuing from the plasma arc torch to create a concentrated plasma jet directed towards the workpiece. By sensing a characteristic of the plasma jet as the plasma arc torch moves to and fro and the workpiece is traversed, such as the change in voltage across a sensing circuit including the plasma jet itself, the location of a seam or other physical characteristic associated with the workpiece (i.e., a hole, plate, or the like) may be detected.

摘要: The use of a microwave resonator is proposed as a sensor in an arrangement for determining the relative position of the sensor relative to a metal or non-metal body. The resonator may be a component of an oscillator and determine the natural frequency thereof. The resonator can also be connected as a filter. For suitable uses, it is possible to provide a plurality of resonators which can be designed and connected in accordance with the geometry of the object to be monitored.

摘要: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for the lateral positioning of a member relative to a joint formed between two metal surfaces and having discontinuities.Use is made of an eddy current sensor having at least two probes staggered in the direction of the joint. The signals supplied by each probe are processed separately to obtain a signal representing the lateral displacement. By comparing said signal with a given threshold below the amplitude of the signal in the presence of a discontinuity, it is possible to only transmit to a servomotor signals which are below this threshold, which correspond to an effective measurement of the lateral displacement.Application is to automatic welding machines.
