Abstract: A red leuco dye demonstrates unusually good thermal and photo stability. The red dye may be used with developers and wax carries for microencapsulation to form thermochromic pigments for use in inks, coatings and the like. This pigment is particularly desirable for use in metal-deco coatings, such as those used in aluminum cans in high beverage canning operations.
