摘要: A method and system for enabling an image production device to generate differential gloss for a print includes exposing a toner image of a material to laser to cause one or more portions of the toner image to melt. The material includes the toner image and a substrate. The substrate is to remain substantially unaffected by the laser.

摘要: A system and corresponding methods are disclosed for controlling the thickness of a layer of dampening fluid applied to a reimageable surface of an imaging member in a variable data lithography system. Following deposition of the dampening fluid layer, a gas is passed over a region of the fluid layer prior to pattern forming. The gas causes a controlled amount of the dampening fluid layer to evaporate such that the remaining layer is of a desired and controlled thickness. Among other advantages, improved print quality is obtained.

摘要: A system's intrinsic mottle & graininess levels are either measured or predicted based on the knowledge of system states including material states and actuator states. The optimal amount of total graininess is then calculated based on established visual models or customer surveys. The difference between this optimal graininess and the machine's intrinsic graininess is then used to calculate the required addition of grainy noise to the print. This additional amount of grainy noise can be added to the print either through textured halftone screens or through noise injection into the input digital (contone) image.

摘要: The present invention relates to the segmentation of an image into a main area and a image segment for variable glossmark data. By selectively applying halftones with anisotropic structure characteristics which are significantly different in orientation while remaining identical in density to the image segment, a variable glossmark may be superimposed within an image with reduced processing and storage requirements.

摘要: A method of measuring and controlling high frequency banding, the method includes creating a test pattern, sensing the test pattern with optical sensors, determining a beat frequency based on the sensed test pattern, and determining the frequency, phase and amplitude of high frequency banding based on the beat frequency. An exemplary embodiment of a feedback control method for controlling high frequency banding includes creating a test pattern, sensing the test pattern with optical sensors, measuring high frequency banding and adjusting the imaging parameters based on the measured high frequency banding in order to decrease the extent of high frequency banding. Moreover, an exemplary embodiment of a system for measuring high frequency banding includes an image marking device having a receiving member, optical sensors arranged on the receiving member, and a controller that is functionally coupled to the optical sensors and to the marking device.

摘要: An imaging system for effecting electrostatic printing of an image, wherein the imaging system includes at least one contact electrostatic printing engine operable in a novel fashion upon a copy substrate, for imaging and development of a latent image representative of the image, and subsequent transfer of the developed image to the copy substrate. The developed image is created by separating and selectively transferring portions of a high solids content toner cake layer in correspondence with the image and non-image regions of the latent image. A toner cake layer delivery apparatus draws from a supply of low solids content liquid developing material to apply a layer of the liquid developing material onto a carrier fluid separation (CFS) surface of a coating member. Rapid migration of the carrier fluid into the CFS surface causes a substantial reduction of the ratio of carrier fluid to toner solids, thus providing the desired high solids content toner cake layer.
