摘要： A resonant mode energy recovery circuit is disclosed for supplying drive pulses to an electroluminescent (EL) display arranged as a matrix of pixels addressed by a plurality of column and row electrodes. An external inductor is used to alternately store and supply energy from the column electrodes of the EL display which has an impedance equivalent to an array of capacitors and resistors. Switching transistors and diodes are used to start and stop the resonant current flow at 1/4 wavelength intervals of the resonant frequency of the resonant tank formed by the external inductor and the array capacitors coupled to the column electrodes in order to form the pulses required to address the columns of the matrix. Switched current sources are used to start and stop nonresonant current flow to form the refresh and write pulses used to form the pulses required to address the rows of the matrix. Together, the pulses applied to the columns and rows of the matrix provide the high voltage necessary to light the EL pixels while minimizing the address time and power required to operate the EL display.

摘要： A circuit which prevents the flow of excess spikes of magnetization current in the primary windings of a transformer used in a switch mode power supply is disclosed. The circuit comprises an AC coupled, peak detecting, negative feedback path from a current sensing resistor in the primary windings of the transformer to the input of the voltage regulator so that as excess primary winding current spikes begins to flow the driving switches on the transformer primary are rapidly turned off thereby preventing any further rise in transformer primary current.

摘要： A cradle and concentrator dish for solar powered high pressure steam generation is described. The cradle permits the dish to rotate around the declination axis to follow the sun through its seasonal motions. The cradle with the dish rotates around the polar axis to follow the sun through its daily motions. The cradle is formed from two tetrahedra. Both axes of rotation lie behind the reflective surface of the dish. The dish has declination axis bearings mounted well away from its rear surface on a separate structure designed to connect the dish to the bearings. The cradle and dish combination allow tubes carrying fluid to and from a receiver mounted over the dish to accommodate the rotation of the cradle and dish by elastic torsion of the tubes.

摘要： An improved backlighting system for electronic displays that require such backlighting is disclosed. The system comprises a fluorescent lamp with improved visible light generating means and a reflector means for channeling the light generated by the lamp into the electronic display. In particular, the lamp comprises, in a preferred embodiment, a cylindrical glass housing, sealed at both ends and containing a plasma which can be excited to generate short wavelength light. A strip of phosphorescent material is placed along the inside surface of the tube, the strip being relatively restricted in width, its width being partially determined by the thickness of the electronic display. A reflector surrounds the lamp and helps drive the light the lamp generates into the phosphor. The lamp is also comprised of a glass transparent to the frequencies of light generated by the plasma. By limiting the width of the florescent area to a strip, light efficiency (the ratio of light out of the display to the electrical power into the lamp) increases and power consumption is also reduced. Additionally, the incorporation of one of several types of light concentrators between the lamp and light guide can improve the light efficiency still further.
