An agricultural vehicle, tractor, or combine including an area counter for calculating the area upon which the vehicle has operated is disclosed herein. For example, the area counter may be utilized with a combine to determine the total acreage of crops which have been harvested by the combine. The area counter calculates a total area signal in accordance with a position signal indicative of the position of the header attached to the combine, a ground speed sensor, and a feeder speed signal. The position of the header (e.g., implement, harvester, or other farm equipment) is provided by a position sensor which provides indicia of the height of the header from a minimum level to a maximum level. The area counter compares the position signal to a threshold to determine whether the header is engaged or operating upon the crop. The area counter is programmed in a microprocessor and generates area data representative of the amount of area upon which the vehicle has operated during 0.5 second intervals. The area signals are accumulated as a total area signal.

A combine including an improved HVAC control system. The frame of the combine supports an operator cab, a harvesting head and the other operational systems of the combine. The control system includes an operator control and a heat exchanger located in the cab. The control system also includes at least one sensor disposed to sense at least one of an ambient air temperature, a cab air temperature and solar loading, and to produce at least one sensed signal representative thereof. The operator control is configured to produce a set-point signal representative of a desired cab air temperature. An interface circuit is electromagnetically coupled to the valve assembly, the operator control, and the at least one sensor. A cooling coil may also be located in the cab, wherein the interface circuit is electromagnetically coupled to the associated coolant compressor. The interface circuit produces a temperature differential based upon a comparison of the set-point signal to the at least one sensed signal and applies the electrical control signals to the valve, compressor and blower based upon the temperature differential to achieve the desired cab air temperature and minimize cab air temperature oscillations.

An electronic control system for controlling the position of a combine harvesting head operable over a surface is disclosed herein. The position is normally controlled based upon the monitored position of the head. However, the position is controlled based upon the force or pressure at which the surface is supporting the implement if this force exceeds a predetermined limit. Thus, the system provides for float control override of position control. In particular, a hydraulic positioning assembly positions the head relative to the combine based upon control signals produced by a digital control circuit. The digital control circuit monitors digital signals representative of the head position and the force at which the surface is supporting the head, and compares these signals with digital setpoint data. Based upon the comparison, the control circuit produces control signals for causing the positioning assembly to raise or lower the harvesting head relative to the surface based upon force when the force limit is exceeded and based upon position when the force is below the force limit.

The control system includes at least one sieve for separating crop material from other materials and a movable side-shaking mechanism coupled to the at least one sieve and configured to move the at least one sieve in a side-to-side motion. A cotton picker moistening system is provided that includes a pump driven by an electric motor to deliver a pressurized flow of moistening fluid. The system also includes a detecting device for generating a sensed parameter signal representative of a characteristic of the fluid delivered by the pump, such as pressure or flow rate, and a signal generator for generating a desired parameter signal representative of the desired characteristic. A control circuit compares the sensed and desired parameter signals and generates a control signal derived from the sensed and desired parameter signals. The control signal is applied to the electric motor, the pump or a regulating device downstream of the pump to control the delivery of moistening fluid. A flush switch is provided to override the control circuit and cause predetermined flow of fluid to be delivered.

The processing device analyzes the collected data and presents the analyzed data to the operator of the combine. As such, the operator may review the analyzed data and make an informed choice in proceeding with the combine operation, such as changing settings or operating components to affect the combine performance.

A cotton compacting assembly arranged in combination with a basket or receptacle that receives and holds cotton materials harvested by a cotton harvester. The cotton compacting assembly compacts the relatively light and fluffy cotton materials in the basket to increase the maximum capacity of the basket without increasing the size of the receptacle or basket. The cotton compacting assembly includes a frame mounted for movement in the basket. A powered rotatable member is mounted on and movable with the frame for imparting movements to the cotton materials in the basket. A control circuit automatically moves the frame to compact cotton materials in the basket in response to a predetermined increase in the power requirements of the rotatable member. The control circuit further includes an apparatus for indicating the level of harvested cotton materials in the basket.

The control system includes a position sensor assembly for producing signals representative of the location of the head relative to the combine, operator control switches, and a controller coupled to the position sensor assembly and the operator control switches. The position sensor assembly preferably includes between 3 or more position transducers located along the harvesting head and a comparison circuit. The comparison circuit selects the signal produced by the sensor associated with the smallest distance between the head and ground, and applies this signal to the controller. Based upon the signal, the controller controls the position of the head.
