Abstract:
The invention relates to a metering type control unit for a power steering system. Units of this type most commonly utilize gerotor type gear sets for the metering operation. A problem with this unit is that highly pressurized fluid leaks from the expansible chambers formed between the star and ring members of the gerotor to the central bore of the star. Control units of this type require a universal drive between the rotatable valve thereof and the star which has a combination rotating and orbiting movement. In this invention the universal drive has a sealing flange associated therewith which serves to enclose the central bore of the star so that a fluid tight chamber is formed. Fluid is trapped in this central bore with the result that the pressure differential between the expansible chambers and this central bore is minimized and leakage is consequently minimized.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a hydrostatic control unit for vehicle steering systems or the like. The unit has a gerotor-type metering motor, inlet and outlet ports and two motor ports which are connectable to a piston and cylinder-type motor of the kind used for actuating a vehicle steering linkage. The unit has changeover valve means having a neutral position and left and right operating positions relates to the two directions of rotation of the metering motor. The metering motor comprises ring and star members with the ring member being capable of only rotational movement and the star member being capable of only orbital movement. Commutator-type valve means is provided which has the form of a disc and is connected to the ring member for rotation therewith.
Abstract:
THE INVENTION RELATES TO A HYDROSTATIC STEERING SYSTEM FOR HEAVY VEHICLES. THE SYSTEM COMPRISES DUAL UNITS IN SERIES WITH ONE UNIT BEING A WORKING UNIT AND THE OTHER UNIT BEING A CONTROL UNIT. EACH UNIT INCORPORATES CHANGEOVER AND SHUT-OFF VALVE MEANS AND METERING MEANS. A STEERING WHEEL ACTUATES THE CONTROL UNIT AND THE METERING MEANS OF THE CONTROL UNIT ACTUATES A CONTROL MOTOR WHICH IN TURN ACTUATES THE METERING MEANS OF THE WORKING UNIT. THE METERING MEANS OF THE WORKING UNIT ACTUATES A WORKING MOTOR CONNECTED TO THE STEERING LINKAGE OF THE VEHICLE.
