Abstract: A method of imaging a dental object using a dental camera comprising the steps of: recording a plurality of three-dimensional optical images of a dental object using a dental camera; determining whether an overlapping area, formed by at least a partial overlap of the plurality of three-dimensional optical images, satisfies one or more recording requirements; and generating an acoustic sound during the recording using a sound generator; wherein the sound serves as a feedback for the user and imparts to the user information (i) about the current status of a recording of the images and/or (ii) about recording requirements of the dental camera; wherein a speed of movement of the dental camera relative to the object is determined by (i) using a motion sensor on the dental camera or (ii) by analysis of the measured images; and wherein the acoustic sound is generated as a function of the determined speed of movement.

Abstract: The invention relates to an optical measuring method for the three-dimensional detection of the surface of an object using an optical recording unit. The optical recording unit is moved relative to the object during a first measurement time interval, height maps are successively detected by the recording unit at a recording frequency, and at least some of the detected height maps are each added to an overall height map and displayed. The recording frequency is regulated by control signals during the measurement time interval. The control signals are generated spaced apart in time and for the purposes of producing each control signal, a statistic for the quality of the height map is determined for the respectively last detected height image and used for producing the control signal. The statistic is the overall intensity and/or the maximum intensity and/or the contrast and/or the number of extracted data points and/or a quality of extracted data points and/or the signal-to-noise ratio and/or the contrast of an additionally generated color image.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for recording individual three-dimensional optical images (2) to form a global image of a dental object (1) which is to be measured. After each individual image (2) is taken by means of a dental camera (3), a computer (8) automatically checks whether an overlapping area (5, 12) between the images which are to be combined meet the recording requirements determined for a correct recording. If the overlapping area (5) meets the recording requirements, the recording is carried out between the images (6, 7) to be combined and a first image sequence (9) is set in motion. Said images of the first image sequence (9) are subsequently combined to form a first cluster (23). If the overlapping area (12) of an image (13) does not meet the recording requirements, the first image sequence (9) is interrupted, an additional second image sequence (14) is automatically started with said image (13). Subsequently, the images of the second image sequence (14) are combined to form a second cluster (24).

Abstract: The quality of digital impressions geometry and color but also fluorescence, transillumination, reflection and absorption properties can be inferior to single frame 2D/3D images e.g. due to averaging effects, rendering effects, difficult scanning situation etc. This can lead to difficulties in the dental workflow such as the creation of a preparation margin line or detection of diseases such as caries. By providing a correlated view of high-quality single frame images and corresponding 3D models, the dental workflow can be guided to be completed more efficiently using the single frame images.
