Abstract: A coupler 30 for use with medical laser delivery systems is disclosed. The delivery system includes an articulated arm and an endoscope 42. The coupler 30 connects the arm to the endoscope. The coupler includes an axially extending tube 46 receivable in the bore 48 of the endoscope. The tube facilitates alignment of the coupler with the endoscope. The coupler is also provided with a telescope optical system (50, 52) for adjusting the diameter of the beam at the entrance to the endoscope to reduce clipping of the beam thereby enhancing transmission.

Abstract: A tool is disclosed for evaluating the alignment of the channel of an endoscope. The tool includes a housing with one end thereof being connectable to the endoscope. The other end of the housing includes an eyepiece. A lens system is provided within the housing for imaging the distal end of the endoscope onto a reticle. The position of the image on the reticle allows the axial alignment of the endoscope channel to be evaluated.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for treatment of skin or other tissue, using a source of thermal, electromagnetic radiation, electrical current, ultrasonic, mechanical or other type of energy, to cause minimally-invasive thermally-mediated effects in skin or other tissue which stimulates a wound-healing response, in conjunction with topical agents or other wound healing compositions, for application on the skin or other tissue which accelerate collagenesis, such as in response to wound healing. The dosage and time period of application of the compositions are adjusted to prevent external or surface tissue damage.

Abstract: A honeycomb structure is coated with a catalyst to promote reassociation of CO and O.sub.2 gases to form CO.sub.2. The structure is positioned near the outlet of an optical resonator of a flowing gas CO.sub.2 laser. It is preferably positioned within a gas feedback flow system. Utilization of a honeycomb structure minimizes interference of the gas flow within the laser assembly and reduces the introduction of contaminants.

Abstract: A device and method for treating female urinary incontinence and also for treating fecal incontinence are presented. A fractional RF grid array is used to heat target tissue to a temperature of about 40-45° C. for a specified period of time, thus stimulating fibroblasts to produce type 1 collagen preferably without producing significant amounts of type 3 collagen. The device includes a temperature sensor and a control circuit to maintain the desired temperature of the target tissue and avoid overheating. Target tissue includes tissue in and around the urethra, and in and around the anus including the perineum. The wand to which the RF grid array is mounted has visible gradations on it so that the user can treat one area at a time, then reliably move the grid array to the next adjacent area even though the grid array is hidden from view inside a portion of the body. The device can also be used for vaginoplasty.
