摘要: A process and apparatus for providing metal material having an improved structure for forming into a desired article is disclosed herein. The improved structure is obtained by slurry casting a material into a continuous member and then hot working the slurry cast material. Upon reheating to a semi-solid state, the hot worked, slurry cast material will exhibit finer particles and fewer eutectic melting rosettes than would be exhibited by the slurry as-cast material in an unworked and heated condition. The hot working of the slurry cast material produces an article having a deformed structure exhibiting directionality.

摘要: A process is disclosed for joining narrow width thin gage metal or alloy strip end to end to form an elongated coil. The trailing end of a first strip segment and the leading end of a second strip segment are cut so as to match when placed in a butting relationship and to establish a joint between the strips. A preselected gap is established between the butting ends and a braze material is inserted in the gap. After heating to braze the strip segments together, the brazed joint is hammered to reduce the joint geometry to that of the parent metal strip segments.

摘要: Aluminum base alloys are disclosed which contain up to 2.0% by weight zinc, up to 5.0% by weight magnesium, less than 0.1% by weight iron, elements selected from the group consisting of cadmium, tin and lead, or any combination thereof, in amounts ranging from 0.05 to 0.3% by weight for each of cadmium and tin and from 0.01 to 0.15% by weight for lead, balance aluminum. These aluminum base alloys are particularly useful as anode material for primary electric cells. The aluminum alloys reduce the incidence of hydrogen gas evolution within the cells. The aluminum base alloys may also be utilized as anode material for uses other than primary cells.

摘要: A method of heat treating aluminum alloys of the aluminum magnesium-silicon type to improve processibility by extrusion which comprises initially homogenizing the alloys at an elevated temperature below the equilibrium solidus temperature of the alloy for from 2 to 12 hours, further homogenizing said alloys at an elevated temperature below the initial homogenization temperature and below the solvus temperature of the alloy for from 2 to 12 hours and slowly cooling said alloys to at least 800.degree. F at a rate of less than 100.degree. F per hour.

摘要: The disclosure teaches a method for the manufacture of hollow articles useful as heat exchangers including the steps of rolling together two sheets of metal with at least one metal tube sandwiched therebetween to form a bonded assembly. The metal tube is subsequently expanded by the introduction of pressure therein to form an internal passageway.
