摘要: A method for mitigating the effects of coil collapse on hot strip mill coils. A hot strip coil is removed from the mandrel/downcoiler and pre-sagged to create an initial sag by allowing gravity cause the coil to sag in a first specific direction for a first period of time. Then, without coil eye support to limit sagging, the direction of the sag caused by the force of gravity is modified to a direction perpendicular to the first specific direction and gravity is allowed to sag said coil for a second period of time. The first period of time and the second period of time are chosen such that the initial sag created during the first period of time is substantially mitigated by the perpendicular sag during the second period of time. The hot strip coil being cooled enough by the end of the second period of time such that the rate of sagging of the hot strip coil has become negligible.

摘要: A method of joining strip-shaped sheets includes a support step of placing a support member in contact with a reverse feed direction end of a strip-shaped sheet fed to a pressing machine and a feed direction end of a new strip-shaped sheet, and a joining step of joining the new strip-shaped sheet to the strip-shaped sheet by attaching a tape on the reverse feed direction end of the strip-shaped sheet and the feed direction end of the new strip-shaped sheet, wherein in the joining step, the tape is attached from a side opposite the support member with the support member placed in contact with the reverse feed direction end of the strip-shaped sheet and the feed direction end of the new strip-shaped sheet. The problem of the variation in welding quality encountered when welding thin and wide strip-shaped sheets together is resolved and the strip-shaped sheet is fed smoothly.

摘要: A trailing end of a leading metal strip is joined to a leading end of a trailing metal strip by first overlapping the leading end of the trailing strip with the trailing end of the leading strip and then clinching the ends together at the overlap by pressing at least one punch of a joining tool into one of the strips at the overlap sufficiently to complementarily deform both of the strips. The thickness of the leading and trailing ends is measured and a depth of engagement of the punch into the strips is controlled in accordance with the measured thickness.

摘要: A process for forming a coil of scrap tubing includes the steps of forming a turntable having at least one longitudinal member extending upwardly therefrom, extending a length of the tubing to the turntable, rotating the turntable such that the tubing wraps around the longitudinal member so as to form the coil, and lifting the coil from the turntable that above the longitudinal member. An end of the scrap tubing from the reel is fixed to the turntable prior to the step of rotating. The longitudinal member includes a panel extending upwardly from the turntable and an arm pivotally mounted adjacent an end of the panel opposite the turntable. A forklift is used to lift the coil from the turntable.

A second of the two drums (18b or 18a) consequently assuming the opposite unwinding or winding position.
