摘要:
A nozzle plate for ink jet cartridges which are manufactured from a relatively thin film of material, such as, for example, polyimide, polyarylene ether, or composite of a number of materials deposited on a rigid substrate, such as a silicon wafer, and photolithographically processed from the rigid substrate to produce a large quantity of interconnected nozzle plates which may be removed as a sheet of interconnected nozzle plates for ease of handling. The nozzle plates are aligned and bonded to the nozzle bearing front faces of the cartridges.

Plain paper is processed through a plain paper optimizer system prior to image formation on a recording surface. The optimizer system adds a fixing fluid during application of pressure and, optionally, heat to the paper surface. The surface contacted by the fixing fluid is enhanced, forming images of improved print quality. In one embodiment, plain paper is treated in an optimizer system, which has a heat and fuser assembly with silicone oil as the fixing fluid, and is transported into the print zone of an ink jet printer. Images printed on the treated surface demonstrate improvements in image quality manifested by reduction of both edge raggedness and intercolor bleeding.

A liquid ink printing apparatus printing images includes a printhead having a plurality of nozzles wherein a single power pulse causes two or more nozzles to eject ink simultaneously. The printhead includes an ink directing element having a plurality of ink conduits coupled to an array of spaced nozzles and a transducer element aligned with and mated to the ink directing element. The transducers are spaced a distance apart and each transducer is substantially aligned with at least two or more of the nozzles. The printhead is stepped in a direction transverse to the array of spaced nozzles a stepping distance approximately equal to or less than the distance between transducers. The ink directing element includes a silicon wafer having etched ink conduits or channels holding ink for ejection through the nozzles connected thereto. Each transducer is cooperatively associated with one channel having a fork member coupled to two or more nozzles or is cooperatively associated with two or more channels wherein each channel is connected to one or more nozzles.

A method enables a controller to align printheads in a printer. The method includes identifying a first cross-process position for each printhead in a plurality of printheads in a printer with reference to image data of a test pattern printed by the plurality of printheads on a media substrate, identifying a second cross-process position for each printhead in the plurality of printheads, calculating a printhead cross-process position error between the identified first cross-process position and the identified second cross-process position for each printhead, comparing a maximum printhead cross-process position error to a predetermined threshold, and operating a plurality of actuators with reference to the calculated printhead cross-process position errors to reposition the printheads in the plurality of printheads in response to the maximum printhead cross-process position error being equal to or less than the predetermined threshold.

An imaging device includes a source of a substantially continuous web of media, and a web transport system configured to transport the continuous web from the source along a web path having a print zone. At least one printhead arranged along the web path in the print zone and configured to deposit ink onto the web to form images. A preheating system is positioned along the web path between the source and the print zone. The preheating system includes a first heating stage and a second heating stage. The first heating stage has at least one heater configured to heat the web to an initial preheat temperature prior to reaching the second stage. The second stage includes at least one heater configured to reduce a temperature of the web from the initial preheat temperature to a target temperature for the preheating system.

A method compensates for changes in drop velocity of drops emitted by inkjets in a printhead of an ink jet imaging device. The method includes operating inkjet ejectors in a plurality of printheads to eject ink in a pattern of structured dashes on an image receiving member, the structured dashes corresponding to a predetermined image data pattern, generating image data corresponding to the pattern of structured dashes on the image receiving member, identifying a process direction correction parameter for each ejector in the plurality of printheads with reference to the generated image data, modifying image data to be printed by the plurality of printheads with reference to the process direction correction parameter identified for at least one of the ejectors, and operating the plurality of printheads with reference to the modified image data.

A method compensates for changes in drop velocity of drops emitted by inkjets in a printhead of an ink jet imaging device. The method includes adjusting image data used to generate firing signals for an inkjet ejector in a printhead of an inkjet imaging device with an initial ink drop correction parameter, adjusting a portion of the adjusted image data with another ink drop correction parameter in response to the portion of the adjusted image data corresponding to a predetermined firing pattern mask, generating firing signals for the inkjet ejector from the adjusted image data, and transmitting the generated firing signals to the inkjet ejector in the printhead.

A scratch-off document may include a substrate. The substrate may include a front side and a backside with an information layer on the front side. An information layer may include an indicia component and a noise component. The noise component together with the indicia component may include a plurality of pile heights, and the indicia component may be visible when combined with the noise component. A scratch-off layer is included over the information layer so that the indicia component is not recognizable through the scratch-off layer.
