摘要:
A system and method for tracking, storing, and distributing inventory of welding-type consumables within an industrial facility includes conveyors for moving and storing welding-type consumables on pallets or other shipment units to the proper work zones. Various sensors or detectors are employed at the loading and unloading ends of the conveyors to provide data for determining quantity, type, and/or location information for monitoring inventory or even automated reordering. Therefore, such a system and method provides robust, reliable, and inexpensive inventory management that can be adaptable and compatible with multiple brands, types, and shipment varieties of inventory materials.

The present invention provides a GMAW control system for balancing wire burnoff rate with wire feed speed at a weld site. A power source applies a pulsed current to the consumable wire. The width of the peak pulse current is calculated and adapted to maintain a constant optimum arc length as selected by the operator. The controller provides a reference voltage to the power source and the power source provides the pulsed current having a magnitude responsive to the reference voltage signal.

The present invention is directed to a power supply that maintains power supply to a plurality of electronic components of a welding system when an arc voltage falls below approximately 15 volts. The invention includes a power supply having a secondary supply circuit that improves the operable range of the power supply by maintaining power to components of a welding system when the arc voltage at a weld is greater than or equal to approximately 10 volts. As a result, the operable range of the power supply is no longer limited by the arc voltage. The invention includes a secondary power supply circuit having a power switch that when activated causes a buildup of energy in the transformer assembly whereupon deactivation of the power switch in the magnetic core is exhausted such that power supply is maintained. The power switch regulates the transformer assembly such that sufficient secondary power is provided if the input voltage to the transformer is as low as approximately 10 volts.

A system and method for forming an arc between an electrode and a workpiece is disclosed. The present invention includes a method of initiating an arc that includes comparing voltage across output terminals of a stick welder to a voltage threshold, and if the voltage across the output terminals is less than the voltage threshold, increasing the voltage across the output terminals to an arc formation OCV. The output voltage of the stick welder will be driven to a lower OCV if an arc is not formed between an electrode and a workpiece within a given period of time.

Enhanced power factor correction for a welding-based power supply includes a controller that tracks a rectified input voltage waveform and detects zero-crossing events therein. The controller generates an ideal sinusoidal current reference signal synchronized by expected zero-crossings in the supplied power. The reference signal is used in a current control loop within the controller to control the power electronics such that the waveform of the current drawn by the power supply matches the waveform of the input voltage. The frequency of the supplied power may be calculated using the expected zero-crossings and used to adjust the expected zero-crossings.

A system and method for operating an welding-based power source includes an welding-type power source includes a power conditioner configured to receive power from a power source and condition the power to have characteristics within a predefined set of thresholds and an inverter configured to receive the conditioned power from the power conditioner and convert the conditioned power to AC power. The welding-type power source also includes a rectifier configured to convert the AC power to DC welding-type power to drive a welding-type process and a processor segregated into at least two functional modules. The processor may be a field programmable gate array (FPGA) based processor. A first functional module is configured to control the power conditioner to condition the power to have characteristics within the predefined set of thresholds and a second functional module is configured to control the inverter to convert the conditioned power to AC power.
