    摘要: A shaft seal assembly is disclosed having a stator including a main body and axial and radial projections therefrom. The rotor is radially extended and encompasses the axial and radial projections from said stator. A passageway formed between the radial projection of stator and rotor results in an axial passageway having its opening facing rearwardly from the rotor and away from the source of impinging coolant and/or contaminant. A concentric circumferential receptor groove in the stator facing the housing allows insertion of conductive means for transmission of electrostatic charge away from the shaft through the shaft seal assembly to the housing and ground. The receptor groove is opposite the axial passageway and provides for both a substantially lower contaminant environment and improved engagement with conductive means.

    摘要: There is disclosed an improved unitary sealing ring that is used on the shafts of rotating elements. The ring has first and second axial faces. The second face has a recess forming a flange therein. At least one annular groove extends along the inwardly radially extending surface. A first axially and longitudinally extending groove communicating between the annular groove or grooves and the axial face. A second longitudinally extending groove extends from the first face to the second face on the outer surface of said ring. The annular groove or grooves function as an oil groove or grooves and the axially and longitudinally extending grooves are designed to accumulate foreign particles that may be incursive with respect to the journalling means of a driving or driven device. These foreign particles are then expelled to the second axially and longitudinally extending groove due to the centrifugal force when the device is being operated.

    摘要: A mechanical labyrinth seal for rotating shafts having first and second ring members. The first ring member, includes a series of annular axially extending grooves and flanges. The second ring member is adopted for insertion into said first ring member with a plurality of complimentary inwardly extending flanges and grooves to form a well known labyrinth seal. There is a slot or channel through the labyrinth or maze connecting the exterior atmosphere to the interior of the seal assembly. The second ring member is adapted to rotate with the shaft and includes an annular recess near the shaft and inwardly toward the housing. There is a recess in the first ring member to be opposite the recess in said second ring member and a strip of material is inserted via a passage into the recesses of said first and second ring member. The recess second ring member being slightly larger in axial direction than the strip of material. Thus, the seal permits axial movement of the shaft while maintaining the labyrinth seal integrity during a predetermined amount of movement, and upon reaching the limit of said movement, the strip of material accommodate the axial thrust of the shaft movement. The strip of material is made of a material having natural lubricity and has full contact with the walls of the recess, thereby reducing the amount of friction and wear in absorbing the axial thrust.

    摘要: The improved shaft seal assembly is disclosed to permit the use of vapor or a combination of a vaporized substance with a carrier on one side of the seal while preventing the movement of the vapor or the vaporized substance from the housing containing said vapor. This novel seal assembly will be an effective seal both during operation and in a static mode. It will also retain the vaporized substance after coalescence so that it may be reclaimed or reused as desired. The novel seal of this invention provides for coalescence in a radial passage between the stator and a second rotor, thus, avoiding any changes, impediments, or variations with relation to the shaft. The novel seal assembly permits the escape of the carrier from the vessel having the vapor or the vaporized substance with a carrier, while retaining the coalesced substance.
