摘要: A casing cementer with torque-limiting rotating positioning tool. The casing cementer comprises a housing with a rotating valve sleeve therein. A positioning tool is used to rotated the valve sleeve between open and closed positions thereof. No reciprication of the positioning tool is required. The valve sleeve has a sealing ring molded thereto for sealing between the housing and the valve sleeve. The valve sleeve preferably has an inside diameter at least as large as an inside diameter of the casing. A stop is provided to limit movement of the valve sleeve when it reaches either the open or closed position. A clutch in the positioning tool provides for torque-limitation and a ratcheting indication to the operator at the surface when the valve sleeve has been opened or closed.

摘要: An apparatus for opening perforations in a casing string. The casing string has a special casing section defining a plurality of holes therethrough. Rupturable ceramic discs or inserts are disposed in said holes and retained therein. The ceramic discs or inserts are adapted to withstand the fluid differential pressures normally present in the wellbore but are rupturable in response to impact by a mild explosive charge. The explosive charge is provided by detonating a length of det-cord disposed in the casing string adjacent to the holes in the special casing section. A method of perforating using this apparatus is also disclosed.

One example of a method is a method of stage cementing a casing string comprising: positioning a catcher tube on top of a float collar; pumping a first fluid through the casing string; placing a first deformable device in the casing string; and pumping a second fluid through the casing string, thereby causing the first deformable device to translate downward in the casing string and into the catcher tube.

An example of a method of the present invention is a method of placing a compressible object having a cross-section within a tubular, including the steps of: reducing the cross-section of the compressible object; placing the compressible object with the reduced cross-section in a tubular; and releasing the compressible object within the tubular. 摘要: A fracture oriented completion tool system for use in a casing string in a wellbore. The completion tool comprises a casing valve having a radioactive source therein, the orientation of which may be determined by use of a detector apparatus, such as a rotational gamma ray detector. The casing valve thus may be aligned with the fracture of a zone of interest in the well. A plurality of casing valves may be used, with at least one having a radioactive source. A swivel connection may be used to interconnect the casing valve so that housing ports therein may be aligned as the casing is run into the wellbore. In one preferred embodiment, the swivel connection is a locking swivel connection. A method of positioning a casing string in the well utilizing the completion tool is also disclosed.

摘要: A double-grip screen hanger apparatus providing compensation for thermal expansion as a result of heat, such as is present in steam flood or steam injection wells. The screen hanger includes an inner mandrel adapted for attachment to a liner screen. A packer portion is disposed around the inner mandrel, and opposed upper and lower slip assemblies are positioned above and below the packer portion, respectively. The slip assemblies and packer portion are shearably attached to the inner mandrel. Setting of the slips and packer is accomplished by a hydraulic actuator and a running tool attached to the tool string. Downward force applied on the mandrel shears the shearing attachments, thus setting the slips and the packer portion. After setting, the slips locate the packer, and the mandrel is relatively free to longitudinally move within the packer and slips due to thermal expansion. The shearing attachment of the lower slip assembly is stronger than the other shearing attachments, and thus is not sheared during the setting operation. Sufficient thermal expansion of the inner mandrel will result in shearing this shearing attachment. The running tool is releasably attached to the screen hanger, and may be detached therefrom by right-hand rotation.

A cementing tool includes a cylindrical outer casing, a cementing port disposed through a side wall of the casing, and a sliding sleeve valve assembly for opening and closing the cementing port. The cylindrical outer casing of the cementing tool is permanently attached to the packer mandrel and has a maximum outer diameter at least as great as a maximum outer diameter of the inflatable packing element when the inflatable packing element is in an uninflated position.

摘要: A method of gravel packing multiple zones with a single trip of the operating string into a well without inducing fluid movement across zones, and without disturbing the zone being packed in reverse circulation. Apparatus is disclosed to perform the method, comprising a screen liner assembly surrounding a concentric operating string. Mechanical force on the operating string is used to change all tool modes of the apparatus. The operating string is accurately positioned with respect to the screen liner assembly at every zone level and zones may be easily relocated if necessary. Zones may be packed in any order, and a zone may be repacked, if necessary, during the same trip into the well.
