    Abstract: A severing apparatus is used for severing a conduit. The apparatus includes a main body section having an upper portion, a lower portion, and an intermediate portion. A combustible charge is located in the intermediate portion, and an ignition mechanism is coupled to the upper portion for igniting the combustible charge. A nozzle head is located in the lower portion and includes an internal cavity and a nozzle portion having apertures at spaced apart positions for providing passages from the internal cavity to outside of the nozzle head. The ignition mechanism is configured to ignite the combustible charge to create a flame and combustion products and pressure in the internal cavity for moving the nozzle head relative to the lower portion so that the nozzle portion protrudes out of the lower portion for passage of the flame and hot combustion products out of the apertures to sever the conduit.

    Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a conduit in a borehole includes combustible material within a body; a nozzle comprising apertures; a support element between the nozzle and the combustible material, the support element comprising a mixing cavity within the support element; an activation device for igniting the combustible material to form a matrix of combustion products for passage toward the nozzle via the mixing cavity; and a swirl diverter comprising an outer surface having a plurality of helical vanes which extend from one end of the swirl diverter toward an opposite end of the swirl diverter. The apertures of the nozzle are configured to direct the matrix of combustion products from the mixing cavity to the helical vanes, and the helical vanes are shaped to rotate the matrix of combustion products and direct the matrix of combustion products radially outward of the body for cutting the conduit.

    Abstract: A well tool device for forming a permanent barrier in a well includes a housing and an ignition device. A compartment is provided in the housing. A pyrotechnic mixture or heat generating mixture is provided within the compartment.     Abstract: A downhole assembly includes a disintegrable article, which contains a polymer matrix comprising a polymer having an oxygen content of about 2 wt % to about 30 wt %; an energetic material configured to generate heat upon activation to facilitate a chemical decomposition of the polymer; and at least one of a reinforcing fiber or a filler. The disintegrable article is disintegrated by disposing the downhole assembly in a downhole environment; performing a downhole operation; exposing the polymer in the polymer matrix to the generated heat to chemically decompose the polymer producing a decomposed product containing a small molecule in a supercritical state; and disintegrating the disintegrable article with the small molecule in the supercritical state.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for cutting objects within a subterranean well include a laser system having a laser drilling head located at a terminal downhole end of a laser tool body directing a head laser beam in a direction downhole. A laser scanner assembly located within the laser tool body has a scanner head directing a scanner laser beam and can move both axially along a length of the laser tool body and rotate around a central axis of the laser tool body. A laser cutter assembly located within the laser tool body has a cutter head directing a cutter laser beam and can rotate around the central axis of the laser tool body. A cable bundle formed of a plurality of fiber optic cables extends from an uphole end of the laser tool body to each of the laser drilling head, the laser scanner assembly, and the laser cutter assembly.

    Abstract: A method of removing material from a target is described. The method comprises the steps of providing a tool, the tool having at least one propellant source; pressurising the tool to a pressure higher than the environmental pressure; igniting at least one of the propellant source(s) to form a combustion zone; and directing combustion products generated at the combustion zone along at least one tool flow path. The tool flow path(s) is selectively openable or closable, such that upon exiting the tool flow path(s) the combustion products interact with a target, the interaction causing material to be removed from the target.
