    摘要: An actuator for selectively extending and retracting a probe in a measuring instrument comprises an actuator body, a carriage having a first aperture slidably attached to the body, and a second aperture receiving a probe holder having a probe. The first aperture of the carriage, which surrounds the actuator body, includes a first plurality of magnets disposed around an inner circumference of the aperture. The actuator body includes a lead screw, a round lead screw nut mated with the lead screw, and a second plurality of magnets arranged on a periphery of the lead screw nut, generally aligned with the first plurality of magnets. The magnets are arranged so that the carriage may be displaced with respect to the actuator body a sufficient amount that the magnets do not significantly restrain the further movement of the carriage.

    摘要: A composite molded article composed of a backing layer of fiber-reinforced thermosetting resin and an outer layer of a thermoplastic resin which is mechanically interlocked to the backing layer through the fiber reinforcement. In fabrication, a layer of fibrous material impregnated with an uncured thermosetting resin is placed in a mold and a molten thermoplastic resin is injected into the mold. The heat of the thermoplastic resin serves to cure the thermosetting resin and the resulting composite article has a rigid, high strength backing formed of the reinforced thermosetting resin and has a smooth thermoplastic outer surface which is receptive to surface finishes.

    摘要: A mirror assembly for a vehicle. A small, flat mirror is mounted through use of a wedge-shaped adhesive block to the inside portion of a conventional side view mirror. The block positions the small mirror at an angle of about 15.degree. to 20.degree. with respect to the plane of the side view mirror to thereby eliminate the "blind spot" to the side and the rear of the vehicle.
