摘要: Devices and methods of use for introduction and implantation of an electrode as part of a minimally invasive technique. An implantable baroreflex activation system includes a control system having an implantable housing, an electrical lead, attachable to the control system, and an electrode structure. The electrode structure is near one end of the electrical lead, and includes a monopolar electrode, a backing material having an effective surface area larger than the electrode, and a releasable pivotable interface to mate with an implant tool. The electrode is configured for implantation on an outer surface of a blood vessel and the control system is programmed to deliver a baroreflex therapy via the monopolar electrode to a baroreceptor within a wall of the blood vessel.

摘要: A method and device for providing stimulation to an artery for purposes of eliciting a physiologic response. A cuff having at least one electrode is provided, wherein the cuff is biased to conform to at least a portion of a vascular structure to maintain an intimate vascular structure-electrode interface. The device is selectively positioned proximate the effective position for providing stimulation to the vascular structure and the cuff is enabled to biasedly conform to at least a portion of the vascular structure. The cuff comprises includes resiliency enabling substantially normal pulsatile expansion of the artery while maintaining effective artery-electrode interface.

摘要: According to one embodiment, the present invention includes an elongate implantable medical lead having a distal portion that is relatively flexible, a proximal portion that is relatively stiff, and a transition portion which has a variable transition stiffness. The transition stiffness varies over the length of the transition portion that generally decreases in a distal direction. The relatively stiff proximal portion of the lead gives the lead steerability while the gradual change in stiffness in the transition portion reduces the likelihood that the lead will prolapse when it is guided into a branch vein. The distal stiffness is less than the proximal stiffness giving the lead a safe end that is unlikely to puncture vascular walls and is able to maneuver around various tortuosities when the lead is implanted into a patient.

摘要: A medical lead for tissue stimulation and sensing is provided, the lead having an electrode with an active fixation mechanism. The active fixation mechanism using a conductive spring element or wave washer to maintain electrical contact after extension of the active fixation mechanism. The active fixation mechanism is engaged by rotating a piston within the electrode housing which advances the fixation mechanism distally.
