摘要:
A turbine including a plurality of nozzles for delivering streams of a two-phase fluid along linear paths, a phase separator for responsively separating the vapor and liquid characterized by concentrically related annuli supported for rotation within the paths and having endless channels for confining the liquid under the influence of centrifugal forces, a vapor turbine fan for extracting kinetic energy from the vapor, and a liquid turbine blade for extracting kinetic energy from the liquid whereby angular momentum of both the liquid phase and the vapor phase of the fluid is converted to torque.
摘要:
A method for driving a two-phase turbine 10 characterized by an output shaft 20 having at least one stage including a bladed rotor connected in driving relation with the shaft, and wherein a two-phase fluid is introduced into said one stage at a known flow velocity and caused to pass through the rotor for imparting angular velocity thereto, the speed of the rotor being controlled so that the angular velocity of the tips of the blades thereof is a velocity equal to at least 50% of the velocity of the flow of the two-phase fluid.

Induction heating can be utilized to cause necrosis of neoplasm as a result of hyperthermia by a process involving the injection of particles having hysteresis heating characteristics into tissue either within or in close proximity to the neoplasm and then subjecting these particles to an alternating magnetic field sufficient to cause hysteresis heating. The frequency of the field is preferably sufficiently low so as to minimize eddy current and dielectric heating. The particles used are preferably initially located within a biologically inert liquid carrier which will facilitate the insertion of the particles within the body and which will automatically become non-liquid within the body so as to hold the particles in place. The carrier may contain radiopaque material to enhance its visualization under radiographic examination. The actual heating is preferably carried out by positioning either the entire patient or the affected portion of the patient's body through a series of axially aligned, parallel, liquid cooled coils. Only one of these coils is connected to a power supply.

A two-phase power source comprises a rotor; a nozzle having an outlet directed to discharge a two-phase jet for impingement on the rotor to rotate same, the nozzle having means to subdivide flow therein; and means to supply a heated first fluid in liquid state to the nozzle for subdivided flow therein toward said outlet and to supply a second and vaporizable fluid in liquid state to the nozzle to receive heat from the first fluid therein causing the second fluid to vaporize in the nozzle and mix with the first fluid in essentially liquid state to produce said discharging jet.
