    摘要: In a CDMA network, each mobile is arranged to combined pilot symbols from its dedicated pilot channel with pilot symbols from at least one common channel as an input to its channel impulse response sensing means. The common channel may be a BCH, a FACH or a PCH, and the pilot symbols on all such channels may be combined. The pilot energy required on each dedicated pilot channel can thereby be reduced. By communicating the quality of the received pilot symbols to a base station, the base station can reduce the energy on the dedicated pilot channel, providing a yet further saving of energy.

    摘要: In a data packet, e.g. a PDU of the UMTS, a length indicator field of variable granularity is created, depending on the exact length of the payload to be transmitted. An additional field is provided, a single bit in length, to indicate the granularity of the length indicator field. This increases the resolution of the header, whilst keeping low an overhead of extra field bits. The method comprises: assessing the length of the data to determine the appropriate units, from a plurality of possible units, in which the length should be expressed; setting the granularity field to define the appropriate units in which the length of the data is to be indicated; and setting the length indicator field to indicate the data length.

    摘要: In the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, a method of transport format combination selection is provided for directing data units for transmission from a buffer in the RLC layer to transport channels in the MAC layer. The method includes providing a set of information channels in the RLC layer for connection to the buffer and a set of transport channels in the MAC layer for transmission of the data units, selecting a subset of the information channels and a subset of the transport channels for interconnection, and selecting for each transport channel one or more information channels to be multiplexed on the transport channel. A mapping table and a transport block combination table are created as a result of prioritizing the selected transport channels according to a predetermined scheme in dependence on the characteristics of the information channels and then there from, determining the number of data units which may be transmitted in a timing interval.

Base stations in cells neighbouring the first cell, are configured to demodulate the RACH message burst having the format associated with the first cell, and to pass the demodulated data to a radio network controller (RNC). This enables the average power required for a successful RACH transmission to be reduced.

    摘要: A method is provided of detecting one of a set of preamble sequences in a spread signal. The method includes: (a) correlating the received spread signal with sequences of a first orthogonal Gold code (OGC) set in accordance with a first fast transform to provide a preamble signal; (b) correlating the preamble signal with the set of preamble sequences in accordance with a second fast transform to generate a set of index values; (c) forming a decision statistic based on the set of index values: and (d) selecting, as the detected one of the set of preamble sequences, a preamble sequence corresponding to the decision statistic. Step (c) comprises the steps of: 1) forming an initial decision statistic based on the relative maximum index of the set of index values; 2) selecting the signal generated by the preamble sequence combined with the preamble signal corresponding to the initial decision statistic; 3) adjusting, in one or more of amplitude and phase, the signal selected in step 2); and 4) forming the decision statistic based on the adjusted signal.
