An exposure device control adjusts the exposure device by setting the exposure device to an intensity level of approximately 50%. A photodetector sensor provides signals to the exposure device control in relation to the 50% intensity level in response to developing the predetermined test patches on the photoreceptor and the exposure device control adjusts the exposure device in response to the photodetector sensor signals without the use of test patches to an intensity level of approximately 100%.
