摘要: A method and system for automatic or semi-automatic defibrillation using redundant processing is provided. In a preferred embodiment, two microprocessors each separately analyze electrocardiogram signals from a patient in order to separately determine whether the patient should be treated. If both microprocessors determine that the patient should be treated, a treatment subsystem defibrillates the patient by delivering a defibrillation charge to the patient. In a semi-automatic embodiment, the treatment subsystem only delivers a defibrillation charge to the patient if a human operator has responded to a visual indication that the patient should be treated by manually activating the defibrillator.

摘要: An ink jet printer includes a charge decoupling device which permits fluid flow of electrically conductive fluid between a high voltage electrode and a grounded fluid reservoir while presenting a high impedance electrical path therebetween. The charge decoupling arrangement includes a nonconductive casing defining an interior casing cavity which is separated into an upper and a lower portion by means of a perforated plate extending horizontally across the cavity. A plurality of drop stabilizers are mounted adjacent associated ones of the perforations to define downwardly extending capillary fluid paths from the perforations into the lower portion of the cavity to form fluid drops which drip off of the bottoms of the stabilizers. The break up of the fluid into drops provides the high impedance path through the charge decoupling device, thus ensuring that the deflection electrode arrangement and the catchers are substantially electrically isolated.

摘要: A battery selecting and charging system forms part of a portable electronic device, preferably a portable medical device. When the device is powered up, a selecting circuit selects one of two rechargeable batteries to power the device until it is depleted, and then automatically switches to the other battery. When the second battery is depleted, both batteries are selected to power the device. When the device is powered down, a battery charging circuit, having both a high and low charge section, provides a high charge to the battery having the greatest terminal voltage. Thereafter, the high charge is applied to the other battery, the low charge is applied to the first battery, and then the low charge is applied to the second battery. The battery charging circuit monitors the terminal voltage to prevent any damage to the batteries or the device.

The second thermal spreader is mountable to the circuit substrate to thermally couple with the second heat generating component. 摘要: A fluid supply system for an ink jet print head includes a recirculating path through a fluid pump, an inertial filter, and a variable restriction valve. Filtrate effluent from the inertial filter passes from the recirculating fluid path through a fixed restriction to the fluid supply line for the print head. The pressure drop across the fixed restriction is monitored and is utilized to control adjustment of the variable restriction valve in the recirculating fluid path such that the flow rate to the print head supply line is held constant. By this arrangement, the fluid within the print head may be maintained at a constant pressure level without the need for a pressure monitoring device directly associated with the print head.

摘要: An ink jet fluid system includes a print head, defining a fluid reservoir, and further including at least one orifice communicating with the reservoir for generating a jet drop stream from the fluid flowing through the orifice. Inlet and outlet valves are connected to inlet and outlet openings of the print head, respectively, and a siphon line extending generally downward is connected to the outlet valve. A float valve, connected between the siphon line and the fluid supply system for the print head, vents the lower end of the siphon line to atmosphere to produce a sub-atmospheric fluid pressure within the print head after shutdown of the printer. The float valve includes a float which prevents air from entering the fluid supply through the valve. The float valve further is arranged so as to prevent ink within the valve from flowing out the vent opening.

摘要: A portable electronic unit, such as a defibrillator, includes an autotest system for automatically self-testing various electrical components within the unit during quiescent periods. The autotest system includes an autotest routine that performs an extensive array of rigorous yet time-consuming tests that are impractical to perform during normal modes of operation of the unit. A real-time clock can be set to initiate the autotest routine at a time when the unit is unlikely to be used for its normal mode of operation. The autotest system provides a strip chart printout of the results of the various self-tests performed on the unit, and provides messages on a visual display of any error conditions. If the autotest system detects a needs service malfunction, the operator must acknowledge the error with an input to the unit before the unit will enter into its normal mode of operation. If the autotest system detects a service mandatory malfunction, the unit will discontinue any normal mode of operation until the malfunction is corrected. The autorest system immediately discontinues the autorest routine upon power-up of the unit by an operator for use of the unit in its normal mode of operation.
