    Abstract: Systems and methods provide witness sled hardware installed in a chassis and updates to firmware used by the witness sled, where the updates are made using management resources of the chassis. A chassis may include data storage devices and Information Handling Systems (IHSs), each storing data redundantly to the storage devices, such in a vSAN. The witness sled provides witness functions, such arbitrating discrepancies in the redundantly stored data. The chassis includes a chassis management controller (CMC) that generates a mapping of baseline firmware in use by the witness sled. When a received firmware is an update to the baseline firmware and is not duplicative of a pending update, the CMC establishes a connection with a microcontroller of the witness sled over a management signaling pathway and transmits instructions and the received firmware update to the microcontroller, such that the programmed microcontroller updates the firmware of the witness sled.

Processes operating on the IHSs monitor for changes to settings related to the first computing solution. A chassis management controller detects updates to the replaceable hardware components that are coupled to the chassis and determines supported settings for detected new hardware components. Parameters for configuring the new hardware components for supporting the first computing solution are selected and used to configure the new hardware components.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for managing a plurality of edge devices based on a predicted network bandwidth utilization includes: identifying a plurality of management tasks associated with the plurality of edge devices, each of the plurality of management tasks associated with a priority; determining a management task of the plurality of management tasks to be assigned to an edge device of the plurality of edge devices; accessing a time series indicating the predicted network bandwidth utilization of the plurality of edge devices; generating a threshold value for the management task based on the time series, the threshold value corresponding to a percentage of the predicted network bandwidth utilization and including one or more available time slots; determining that the predicted network bandwidth utilization is less than the threshold value; and assigning the management task to the edge device.

    Abstract: Method and systems support configuring components of a chassis comprising a plurality of IHSs (Information Handling Systems). A management controller of the chassis initiates a process for identifying a plurality of hardware and software capabilities of the chassis. Based on the identified capabilities, computing solutions, such as specialized computation and storage functions, supported by the chassis are determined. The computing solutions supported by the capabilities of the chassis are encoded, such as within a set of compatibility bits. Upon detecting updates to the hardware and software capabilities of the chassis, the encoded compatibility bits are used to determine compatibility of the updated capabilities with computing solutions supported by the chassis. The encoded solution compatibility information is transmitted to a solution manager that monitors compliance of multiple chassis within a datacenter and identifies chassis that are compatible with a particular computing solution without querying the individual chassis.

    Abstract: Systems and methods provide failover operations for witness sled hardware installed in a chassis. The chassis may include data storage devices and Information Handling Systems (IHSs), each storing data redundantly to the storage devices, such as in a vSAN. A primary witness sled provides witness functions, such as arbitrating discrepancies in the redundantly stored data. The chassis includes a chassis management controller (CMC) that connects with the primary witness sled via a management signaling pathway and maintains a copy of witness transactions stored by the primary witness sled based on transactions transmitted via the management signaling pathway. The CMC generates an inventory of co-located witness sleds. Upon detecting the primary witness sled is not operational, the CMC selects a failover witness sled from the inventory of co-located witness sleds and migrates witness operations of the primary witness sled to the selected failover witness sled.
