摘要: A transparent substrate having a glare reducing diffuser surface coating on its outer surface forms a faceplate for attachment to a screen for a cathode ray tube or other display device. The coating has a gloss less than about 80 gloss units, and the substrate may include an index matching adhesive/medium for attaching said faceplate to a cathode ray tube screen. The diffuser surface coated substrate is bendable, overcoatable with functional coatings such as transparent conductor coatings, abrasion resistant, and generally serviceable for its intended use.

摘要: Processes for making a transparent substrate having a glare reducing diffuser surface coating on its outer surface are disclosed to provide a faceplate such as for attachment to a screen for a cathode ray tube or other display device. Preferably, the coating has a thickness of less than about 3 microns and/or a gloss less than about 80 gloss units. The method includes spraying a precursor solution onto the substrate to form a preliminary coating, at least partially densifying that preliminary coating, spraying another coating of precursor solution onto the preliminary coating, and firing the coating to form a diffuser surface coating. Alternately, a precursor solution of an inorganic metal oxide dissolved in an organic solvent is sprayed on the substrate and fired at a temperature within the range of from about 250° C. to about 600° C. to form the diffuser surface coating.

摘要: Processes for making a transparent substrate having a glare reducing diffuser surface coating on its surface are disclosed to provide a touchscreen or a faceplate such as for attachment to a screen for a cathode ray tube or other display device. Preferably, the faceplate has at least one of a gloss reading of less than about 80 gloss units, and a resolution of at least about 3 lines per millimeter. The method includes coating at least one layer of a precursor solution onto a functional coating provided on at least one surface of the substrate, and firing the layer to form the faceplate having a diffuser surface coating on the functional coated substrate. Preferably, the precursor solution at least comprises a metal oxide precursor dissolved in an organic solvent. Also, the firing preferably occurs at a temperature of at least 250° C. The functional coating is preferably provided as a transparent conductive coating.

摘要: A vehicular blind spot indicator mirror includes a transparent glass substrate having a mirror reflector coated onto the substrate. Visible light reflectance by the mirror reflector coated substrate is at least about 40 percent visible light reflectance for visible light incident upon a front side of the mirror reflector coated substrate. A blind spot indicator light display is disposed to the rear of the mirror reflector coated substrate and emits visible light upon a detection by a blind spot detector. Light emitted by the display passes through the transparent glass substrate to be viewed by a viewer viewing from the front side of the substrate. The display is operable, when electrically powered and when operated in the vehicle during day time driving conditions, to exhibit a display luminance of at least about 60 foot lamberts as measured with the display placed behind, and emitting light through, the transparent glass substrate.

The visible light transmission through the reflective mirror element is in the range of from about 1% visible light transmission to about 30% visible light transmission and the visible light reflectance is in the range from 40% visible light reflectance to 80% visible light reflectance for visible light incident upon the front side of the reflective mirror element. A turn signal display having at least one light emitting diode is disposed to the rear of the reflective mirror element and configured to emit light that light passes through the semitransparent mirror reflector to be viewed by a viewer viewing from the front of the reflective mirror element with a display luminance of at least about 30 foot lamberts.

摘要: A display mirror assembly includes a reflective mirror element having a semitransparent mirror reflector coated onto a light-transmitting substrate. Visible light transmission through the reflective mirror element is at least 3 percent and visible light reflectance by the reflective mirror element is at least 40 percent for visible light incident upon the front side of the reflective mirror element. The reflective mirror element does not exhibit substantial spectral selectivity in its reflectance of visible light incident upon its front side. A display device is disposed to the rear of the reflective mirror element and configured so that light emitted by the display device passes through the semitransparent mirror reflector to be viewed by a viewer viewing from the front. When electrically powered, a display luminance of at least about 60 foot lamberts as measured with said display device placed behind, and emitting light through, the reflective element is achieved.
