    摘要: Novel benzofuranylbiphenyl compounds of the formula ##STR1## which are unsubstituted or polysubstituted by radicals R=hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, halogen, phenoxy and benzyloxy and in which M is hydrogen and/or one equivalent of a non-chromophoric cation and n is the number zero, 1 or 2 and m is the number zero or 1, subject to the condition that n and m are not both zero, and the preparation and use thereof as fluorescent brighteners, for example for textiles and paper. The novel benzofuranylbiphenyl compounds are distinguished by their very good stability associated with excellent whitening properties.

    摘要: The present invention provides a compound having the formula: ##STR1## in which M is hydrogen, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, ammonium, mono-, di-, tri- or tetra-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylammonium, mono-, di- or tri-C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkylammonium or ammonium that is di- or tri-substituted by a mixture of C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl and C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkyl groups; R.sub.1 is a group having the formula: ##STR2## in which M has its previous significance and n is 1 or 2; and R.sub.2 is O--C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl or N(R.sub.3)(R.sub.4) in which R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, independently, are hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 hydroxyalkyl, or R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, together with the nitrogen atom, are the atoms required to form a pyrrolidine, piperidine or morpholine group.The compounds of formula (1) are particularly useful as fluorescent whitening agents for cotton in discontinuous processes, in the course of which an acidic treatment, especially a finishing treatment using a polymer resin, occurs.

    摘要: A process for inhibiting the re-absorption of migrating dyes in the wash liquor comprises introducing into a wash liquor containing a peroxide-containing detergent, from 0.5 to 150 mg, per liter of wash liquor, of one or more manganese compounds having the formula (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6) or (7) as defined in the specification. The manganese compounds do not exhaust at all on to cotton, polyamide or polyester fibres so that the compounds cannot lead to fibre discolouration problems.

    摘要: There is provided a stable, concentrated fabric rinse composition comprising 0.3 to 10, preferably 0.3 to 3% by weight of a fluorescent whitening agent which is compatible with a fabric care ingredient, preferably a cationic, amphoteric or anionic fluorescent whitening agent, based on the total weight of the composition, and optionally a fabric care ingredient, preferably a fabric softener, a stain release or stain repellant ingredient or a water-proofing agent, the remainder being substantially water. The fabric rinse composition is preferably a fabric softener composition comprising 5 to 25, preferably 10 to 20% by weight of a cationic fabric softening agent and 0.3 to 10, preferably 0.3 to 3% by weight of a cationic, amphoteric or anionic fluorescent whitening agent, each based on the total weight of the composition, the remainder being substantially water. The present invention also provides method for the treatment of a textile article, comprising applying, to the previously washed article, the said fabric rinse composition, preferably the rinse cycle fabric softener composition, whereby the sun protection factor, and other properties such as the tear Strength and lighffastness of articles so treated can be significantly increased.
