The present invention relates to a functionalized carbon nanoparticle prepared by modifying the surface of a carbon nanoparticle with C5-10 aryl or heteroaryl substituted with one or more hydroxyl groups, and a functional polymer fiber bound therewith. The functionalized carbon nanoparticles according to the present invention are tightly bound to the polymer fiber, thereby providing the polymer fiber with the properties of carbon nanoparticle. The properties of the carbon nanoparticle being further provided in addition to those of the polymer fiber, the polymer fiber is expected to further expand its scope of application.

Aqueous solutions of N-methylol compounds of carboxamides, urethanes, ureas and aminotriazines or of N-methylol ethers of these compounds that are suitable for finishing cellulose-containing textile materials are prepared by reaction of compounds having one or more N--H groups in aqueous solution with formaldehyde and, in the case of N-methylol ethers, with an alcohol by adding boron trifluoride, a boron trifluoride addition compound or tetrafluoroboric acid or a salt thereof to the aqueous solutions during or immediately after the reaction.

The present invention relates to compositions and processes which incorporate water-soluble polymers, other than enzymes, containing .dbd.N--C(.dbd.O)-- (including PVP) and/or N-oxide groups into the wash, rinse, and/or drying cycle of a laundering process (e.g., via fabric softening compositions) for dye transfer inhibition in the subsequent wash cycle. Multiple wash cycles optimize the dye transfer inhibitor performance of these polymers, remove unwanted dye discoloration caused by dye transfer, and provide soil antiredeposition benefits.
Abstract:
The present invention provides, inter alia, durable and regenerable microbiocidal textiles and methods for preparing same. Such textiles can be readily prepared using a wet finishing process to covalently attach a hetercyclic N-halamine to a cellulose based material or other polymeric material. Once prepared, the textiles of the present invention have a broad spectrum of biocidal activity against pathogenic microorganisms. Moreover, the biocidal activity of such textiles can be regenerated by washing with a halogenated solution.

An ultraviolet absorber comprising, as an effective component, a benzotriazole compound represented by the following general formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R represents hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or phenyl. The ultraviolet absorber undergoes minimal sublimation, has excellent thermal resistance, provides satisfactory light fastness for materials made of polyester-based synthetic fibers, particularly cation-dyeable polyester-based fibers, and is also inexpensive, generates few by-products and is easy to produce industrially.

Crosslinked cellulose fibers having free pendant carboxylic acid groups are disclosed. The fibers include a polycarboxylic acid covalently coupled to the fibers, and are crosslinked with a crosslinking agent having a cure temperature lower than the cure temperature of the polycarboxylic acid. Methods for producing the fibers and for producing a fibrous sheet incorporating the fibers are also disclosed.

A process for the production of aminated cotton fibers by subjecting a raw cotton or cotton-polyester mixture to a modification with a saturated aliphatic compound of 3 to 15 carbon atoms which contains at least one primary, secondary, tertiary, or quaternary amino group and at least one hydrolyzable ester group, in which the saturated radical is straight chain, branched, or cyclic, and may be interrupted by one or more hetero groups and may be substituted by one or more hydroxyl groups. The modification occurs simultaneously with scouring, kiering, or dry mercerizing.
