摘要: A method for converting .alpha.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) to .beta.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride), for preparing electrostatographic carrier and, electrostatographic developer and carrier. In the method for preparing electrostatographic carrier, uncoated electrostatographic carrier particles are coated with .alpha.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) to provide .alpha.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) coated carrier particles. A measurable portion of the .alpha.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) is then converted to .beta.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) by subjecting the .alpha.-phase poly(vinylidene fluoride) to a series of viscoelastic collisions having a total energy of from about 5.times.10.sup.4 to about 5.times.10.sup.5 Joules/kilogram of poly(vinylidene fluoride).

摘要: A method of developing electrostatic images with a two component developer avoids the break-in period of developer by providing a fresh mixture of carrier and toner, which toner has a first particle size but replenishes the mixture in use with toner having a second particle size larger than the first particle size. This compensates for the tendency of electrostatic images to preferentially attract the larger particles in a toner mixture.

摘要: The freezeless method for watering livestock, in one embodiment, is a method and means to provide water to livestock using a well, trough and a piston pump that is activated and powered by the animal. The animal uses its nose to push a plate on a lever apparatus that is attached to the pump. The pushing motion causes a rod to move the piston pump, which in turn raises water to the surface via piping into the trough where the animal drinks the water. The animal continues to pump the lever apparatus until the desired amount of water is consumed. By using a drain means and insulation means, the apparatus operates in freezing temperatures without the use of a power or heat source.

摘要: The invention describes methods for locating a treatment device disposed within a living body by means of magnetic fields that are produced by Barkhausen jumps, principally from amorphous tag wires with high permeability that exhibit reentrant flux reversal. When wires of this type are attached to concealed treatment devices such as catheters, interrogation or scanning of the tag wire by a low frequency ac magnetic field affords an accurate means for locating the treatment devices using a sensor coil to detect the magnetic field signal from the wire locating tag. The strength of the field detected by the position of a sensor coil with respect to the locator tag is used to determine the location of the tag. A favorable signal to noise detection ration is obtained as the signal emitted by the wire is at a very high frequency compared to that of the frequency of the interrogation field.

摘要: In a turbine driven power generating plant of the type using for example a hydrocarbon or halocarbon as the working fluid operating on or near the surface of an ocean, warm surface water is used as a source of heat for a boiler and cold water pumped from substantial depths is used to condense the working fluid after it has been expanded through the turbine. An auxiliary power source for starting the water pumps of the main system includes a prime mover driving a compressor which in turn supplies a high energy working fluid to a turbine coupled to drive the water pumps. The turbine exhaust after being cooled in a heat exchanger by the cold water pumped from the ocean depths, is returned to the suction side of the compressor.
