    摘要: A rocket engine propulsion system having improved engine performance is described herein. The rocket engine propulsion system includes multiple axial counterbalances to reduce or eliminate axial thrust exerted on components of a turbopump. The axial counterbalances can allow for a larger range of axial thrust forces while coupling this ability to a rotational speed (e.g., rotations per minute, or RPM) of a shaft. The axial counterbalances include protrusions that extend circumferentially around a shaft that mate with protrusions on swing arms. The swing arms are rotatably attached to a bracket which is constrained by a static support.

    摘要: Methods and systems for lifting wellbore fluids in a subterranean well towards a surface include providing a closed water system free of fluid communication with the wellbore fluids, the closed water system having a water storage tank located outside of a high temperature zone of the subterranean well. Water from the water storage tank is circulated into the high temperature zone of the subterranean well to form a steam. A downhole steam turbine is rotated by the steam to drive a submersible pump system in fluid communication with the wellbore fluids and the wellbore fluids are lifted towards the surface with the submersible pump system. The steam exiting from the steam turbine is directed towards the water storage tank.

    摘要: A nuclear reactor includes a nuclear core comprising a fissile material, and a pressure vessel containing the nuclear core immersed in primary coolant water. Turbo pumps disposed in the pressure vessel provide active circulation of primary coolant water in the pressure vessel. Each turbo pump includes a turbine driving an impeller. A manifold plenum chamber is disposed in the pressure vessel, and is in fluid communication with inlets of the turbines of the turbo pumps. An electrically driven pump operatively connected with the manifold plenum chamber to pressurize the manifold plenum chamber with primary coolant water. The turbo pumps may be disposed in openings passing through the manifold plenum chamber. The pressure vessel may be vertically oriented and cylindrical, with a cylindrical riser oriented coaxially inside, and the manifold plenum chamber may be annular and disposed in a downcomer annulus defined between the cylindrical riser and the cylindrical pressure vessel.

    摘要: A double suction centrifugal pump is provided. An impeller is mounted inside a pump housing, which is mounted inside a three-dimensional frame made of two end plates connected by crossbars. The pump housing has opposing inlet openings on opposite sides of the housing so that fluid is sucked into the housing from both sides and discharged by the impeller. The impeller is mounted on a driveshaft that extends through the dual inlet openings and openings in each of the end plates. Dual hydraulic motors are mounted on the exterior of each respective end plate and cooperatively rotate the driveshaft. Agitators are attached to the driveshaft and rotate with the driveshaft. The agitators macerate solids such as vegetation or other organic matter so that the solid matter does not clog the pump intakes. The pump is effective for dredging and pumping sand and other abrasive solids and in severe service applications of high viscosity, high density fluids.
