This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for controlling brightness of a display based on ambient light conditions. In one aspect, a display device can include a reflective display and an auxiliary light source configured to provide supplemental light to the display. The display device further can include a sensor system configured to determine an illuminance of ambient light, and a controller configured to adjust the auxiliary light source to provide an amount of supplemental light to the display based at least in part on the determined illuminance. In one aspect, the amount of supplemental light remains substantially the same or substantially increases in response to increasing illuminance when the illuminance is below a first threshold, and substantially decreases in response to increasing illuminance when the illuminance is above a second threshold that is greater than or equal to the first threshold.

The invention describes in detail the structure of a CMOS image sensor pixel that senses color of impinging light without having absorbing filters placed on its surface. The color sensing is accomplished by having a vertical stack of three-charge detection nodes placed in the silicon bulk, which collect electrons depending on the depth of their generation. The small charge detection node capacitance and thus high sensitivity with low noise is achieved by using fully depleted, potential well forming, buried layers instead of undepleted junction electrodes. Two embodiments of contacting the buried layers without substantially increasing the node capacitances are presented.

摘要:
Digital pixel data is transferred from a computer system to video display hardware in a forward direction. However, there are many reasons for digital pixel data to be transferred in both directions along a cable connecting a computer and a monitor. This invention describes a method of sending digital data from a monitor back to the computer in a reverse direction. In transmission of digital pixel data in a forward direction, there are horizontal and vertical blanking periods during which special characters are transmitted in order to resynchronize the digital pixel data to a clock signal. In such a system the transmission of these special characters only requires a portion of the blanking periods. During the remainder to the blanking period, some of or all of the data paths can be used in order to transmit digital data in a reverse direction. Where all data paths are used, the beginning and end of the usable portion of the blanking periods may last for a fixed number of clock cycles. Alternatively, the beginning and end of the usable portion of the blanking periods may be indicated by signals transmitted in a forward direction over one of the data paths, where all data paths are not used in a reverse direction.

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for device and methods for high reflectance multi-state architectures. In one aspect, a display device can include a plurality of reflective pixels including subpixels. Each subpixel can be selectively switched among first, second, and third states, with each state having a different spectral reflectance. Each subpixel has a spectral reflectance associated with a first set of primary colors and with a second set of primary colors. At least one of the colors in the second set of primary colors can be different from the colors in the first set of primary colors. The first set of primary colors can include colors that combine to produce white. A combination of colors of the first set of primary colors can have a brightness that is higher than the brightness of the combination of colors of the second set of primary colors.
