Abstract:
A novel process is disclosed for separating liquid diluent from a slurry of the diluent and a solid polymer involving the use of a first intermediate pressure flash zone and a second lower pressure flash zone.
Abstract:
An extraction process for recovering bitumens from tar sands in which the tar sand is mixed with a hot hydrocarbon solvent, for example, toluene, in order to evaporate substantially all the water contained in the tar sands. The tar sands-solvent mixture is then separated into two phases of fine and coarse sand. Two centrifuging steps are then used to recover the bitumen from the fine sand phase.
Abstract:
Tar sand is blended in a melt tank with oil to form a slurry which is separated into two streams one containing coarse sand, the other fine sand. The stream containing fine sand is then introduced into a coker yielding coke and a hydrocarbon vapor stream, the latter is introduced into the bottom section of a fractionator. The stream containing coarse sand is filtered. The sand is stripped with kerosine which is then fed to the fractionator together with the filtrate at intermediate points. The fractionation produces gas, gasoline, kerosine and various cuts of oil including heavy bottoms which are recycled to the coker and heavy gas oil which can be recycled to the melt tank.
Abstract:
A method are provided for separating diluents from solid polymers in an effluent extracted from a polymerization reactor. The separation utilizes a two-stage flash involving a first intermediate pressure flash and a second lower pressure flash, with the first intermediate pressure flash occurring in a cyclone vessel having an extended solids reservoir.

Abstract:
Method and apparatus for the separation of solid polymer and liquid diluent comprising the use of a filter vessel from which a major portion of the diluent can be recovered directly as liquid for recycle to the polymerization process.
Abstract:
Improved process for the separation of a hydrocarbon-containing feedstream comprising monomer, comonomer and diluent into separate product streams which comprises subjecting the feedstream to two-stage distillation provided with a common accumulation zone wherein the condensate from the accumulation zone serves as the source of feed for the second distillation and reflux for the first distillation. In a specific embodiment, a feed comprising ethylene, 1-hexene, and isobutane is separated into separate streams of 1-hexene, ethylene and isobutane, and isobutane for recycle to polymerization.

Abstract:
A carbon source and zinc oxide are reacted in a reactor to form a gas consisting essentially of carbon monoxide and zinc. The zinc is separated and reoxidized in a zinc oxidizer. In the reactor and the zinc oxidizer, heat exchange means are provided for that are connected to each other to form a heat exchange loop through which a heat exchange fluid is circulated such as to supply heat generated in the zinc oxidizer to the reactor.
