    摘要: The present invention relates generally to the field of primers and adhesion promoters. More specifically, the primer of the present invention is comprised of one or more multi-carbonylated methacrylates. In a preferred embodiment, a non-ketone polar solvent is also employed. The resulting composition eliminates primer related discoloration of artificial nail enhancements, eliminates the potential for corrosion of skin and nails, and eliminates risk of chemical burn injury, while providing stronger adhesion than currently available primers.

    摘要: An artificial human nail structure is described which is formed of polymerized alkyl methacrylate and hydroxyalkyl methacrylate in a weight ratio in the range of 1-50 parts of alkyl methacrylate per part of hydroxyethyl methacrylate, preferably a ratio of 2-20:1, and more preferably of 3-10:1, and wherein said alkyl moiety of either is any C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, preferably ethyl. The artificial nail coating can be easily applied, polymerizes readily and rapidly without catastrophic crystallization and produces a transparent and easily shaped artificial nail structure. Also disclosed is an artificial human nail surface precursor having as its principal component a mixture of alkyl methacrylate and hydroxyalkyl methacrylate in the above mentioned weight ratio. Nail materials formed exhibit high impact resistance, improved stiffness, good flexural strength, resistance to cracking and breaking, good workability, improved compatibility with the natural nail surface, good transparency, clarity and moldability, may need not primer, has increased adhesion, better stability, and have no tendency toward catastrophic crystallization.

    摘要: A method is disclosed for the catalytic polymerization of cyanoacrylate monomers by contacting said monomers with an organotin compound. Also included is a polymerizable system comprising cyanoacrylate monomer and an organotin compound, wherein upon contact of the monomer and the compound, the compound catalyzes the polymerization of the monomer. The organotin compound will have the formula R.sub.3 SnX (I), where each R is alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkaryl or aryl and X is alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkaryl, hydrogen, hydroxide or alkylcarboxyl, or the formula R.sub.2 R'.sub.s Sn (II), where each R is alkyl and each R' is alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, hydrogen, hydroxide or alkylcarboxyl. In each compound all substituents of the same chemical type may be the same species or two or more may be different species from each other, provided, however, that if in compound II both R and R' are of the same chemical type, each of the R substituents must be a different species from each of the R' substituents. The compounds may also be reacted or complexed with sulfur compounds, such as mercapto acid salts or mercaptides. Preferably R, R' and X are all C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, more preferably normal alkyl.

    摘要: A method is disclosed for the formation of artificial nail surfaces, whether natural nail coatings or nail extenders, which comprises first impregnating a fabric matrix with a cyanoacrylate monomer, forming the impregnated fabric matrix into an artificial nail surface shape and thereafter contacting the impregnated matrix with an organotin compound to cause the monomer to become polymerized and solidify in contact with the matrix and in the formed nail shape. In a preferred embodiment, the organotin compound is mixed with one or more additives in a liquid and the liquid is dispensed onto the monomer surface with an eyedropper, although, if desired, the additives can be incorporated separately prior to the contact of the impregnated matrix with the organotin compound. Also disclosed is a polymerizable nail surface formation system comprising a fabric matrix impregnated with a cyanoacrylate monomer and an organotin compound, the impregnated matrix being formed into an artificial human nail surface shape, wherein upon contact of the monomer and the compound, the compound catalyzes the polymerization of the monomer to form a solidified body in the nail surface shape.The polymerized material finds use as an artificial nail surface for application to natural fingernails or toenails to enhance the physical properties and appearance of the nails.
