A METHOD FOR COATING AN ARTICLE WITH A CONTINUOUS POLYMERIC FILM INCLUDING THE STEPS OF (A) DEPOSITING AND ADHERING A LAYER OF POLYMERIC MATERIAL IN PARTICULATE FORM TO THE ARTICLES EXTERIOR SURFACE, (B) MAINTAINING THE COATED ARTICLE AT A TEMPERATURE BELOW THE BOILING POINT OF A SELECTED COMPOSITION WHICH IS A SOLVENT FOR THE POLYMERIC MATERIAL AT ITS BOILING POINT AND WITHIN A TEMPERATURE RANGE BELOW ITS BOILING POINT, AND (C) EXPOSING THE ARTICLE TO AN ATMOSPHERE CONTAINING THE SELECTED COMPOSITION IN VAPOR FORM, WHEREBY THE VAPORS CONDENCE ON THE SURFACE OF THE ARTICLE AND CAUSE THE POLYMERIC MATERIAL TO FUSE AND FORM A CONTINUOUS FILM ON THE SURFACE OF THE ARTICLE.

A POLYESTER COATING COMPOSITION INCLUDING A LINEAR POLYESTER SUCH AS POLY (1,4-CYCLOHEXANEDIMETHYLENE-50 MOLE PERCENT TEREPHITHALATE-50 MOLE PERCENT ISOPHTHALATE), CELLOUSE ACETATE BUTYRATE, AND OPTIONALLY A PLASTICIZER SUCH AS DI-2-ETHYLHEXYL PHTHALATE, A STABILIZER SUCH AS DILAURY 3,3''-THIODIPROPIONATE, DYES AND/OR PIGMENTS, A LINEAR BISPHENOLIC POLYESTER. THE COATING CAN BE APPLIED TO A HEATABLE SUBSTRATE IN POWDER FORM AND CAUSED TO FUSE BY APPLICATION OF HEAT IN THE RANGE OF 375*F. TO 500*F. PRODUCING A SMOOTH, NON-CRATERED SURFACE.

A METHOD FOR FORMING A FIBER-FILLED ORGANIC PLASTIC INCLUDING THE STEPS OF (A) INTRODUCING CONTINUOUS FILAMENTS INTO A FLUID CONTAINING PARTICLES OF A PLASTIC (B) SPREADING THE FILAMENTS APART, (C) EVENLY DISTRIBUTING THE PARTICLES ON THE FILAMENTS, (D) COALESCING THE PARTICLES TO COAT THE FILAMENTS, (E) BRINGING THE COATINGS INTO MUTUAL CONTACT FORMING A ROD-LIKE MEMBER, (F) SEVERING THE ROD-LIKE MEMBER INTO SHORT LENGTH. THE APPARATUS INCLUDES A CONTAINER HAVING PARTICLES OF A PLASTIC ENTRAINED IN A FLUID THEREIN, SPREADING MEANS, AN OVEN, A DIE AND A CUTTER.
