Dewatering agents and methods of dewatering wastewater slurries are provided. Also disclosed are methods for improving the separation of solids from water. The water may be produced water, raw water, or wastewater, for example. The dewatering agents can be in solutions and the dewatering agent solutions may include flocculants, soy based components, and surfactants. The soy based components can include, for example, soy flour and soy protein.
Abstract:
A method of analyzing water in a continuous casting process and controlling chemical addition to the water may involve measuring, with a plurality of sensors, at least one characteristic of a water in a plurality of different locations of a water recycle system for the continuous casting process. The continuous casting process can have multiple spray nozzles that spray water on a metal being cast, and the water recycle system may include a gravity settling tank, a filter, and a cooling tower. A processor can determine, using the measured at least one characteristic of the water from the plurality of sensors, a composite water quality value for the water in the water recycle system. A chemical additive can be controllably added into the water recycle system based on the determine composite water quality value.

Methods of modification of zero-valent iron (ZVI) to improve its performance in removing contaminants from a discharge stream. In some aspects, the methods include contacting ZVI-impregnated disks with solutions containing metal cations such as Ni2+, Cu2+, Fe2+, or Pd2+. In some aspects, a wastewater stream is treated with a metal cation solution, then passed over ZVI. Compositions for treating wastewater include ZVI that is modified with a metal cation solution.

The filter pipe can be easily retracted from the process pipe without interruption of the industrial process. The filtration apparatus can be automatically cleaned by compressed air or water.
