Abstract: A method for producing high purity lithium hydroxide monohydrate from materials containing a lithium salt selected from Li2SO4, LiCl, Li2CO3 or mixtures thereof is provided. The method includes membrane electrolysis of an aqueous solution of the indicated lithium salt using a cation exchange membrane and a nickel-plated stainless steel cathode. The catholyte is withdrawn from the circulating stream and evaporated to give crystals of lithium hydroxide monohydrate, which are separated from the mother liquor, washed with water and dried to give the final high purity lithium hydroxide monohydrate. Part of the spent washing solution is fed into the catholyte evaporation process. Part of the mother liquor formed after the separation of crystals of lithium hydroxide monohydrate is returned to the catholyte evaporation process. The reverse flow of the anolyte is replenished with a concentrated lithium salt solution prepared from the original lithium salt.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for producing fresh water from aqueous salt solutions in the form of water vapor condensate released by cooling an air stream maximally saturated with water vapor and circulating between a condenser refrigerator and a device for heating, by solar rays, and contacting streams of the salt solution being dehydrated and of atmospheric air being saturated by the water vapor are provided. The initial lithium-bearing natural brine is used as a coolant prior to the use thereof as a raw lithium-bearing source for selective extraction of lithium on granulated LiCl·2Al(OH)3·mH2O sorbent. The method and apparatus allow the production of fresh water both from highly mineralized aqueous salt solutions and from low-mineralized solutions, for example, the fresh water extracted from natural primary lithium concentrate, without the costs associated with technogenic thermal energy provided by heating steam or electricity.

Abstract: Method for preparing lithium concentrate from natural lithium-bearing brines was developed. The brine is first subjected to purification from the suspended solids, then filtered through a static layer of the granulated sorbent based on the LiCl-2Al(OH)3-mH20, where m=3-5, to obtain primary lithium concentrate. The process is carried out in sorption-desorption units consisting of 4 columns, two of which are in the process of lithium chloride from the brine, one column is in the process of washing the sorbent saturated with lithium chloride from the brine, and one column is in the process of lithium chloride desorption. Primary lithium concentrate is converted to a secondary lithium concentrate by concentration in evaporative pools or reverse-osmotic concentration-desalination. Secondary lithium concentrate is used for further production of lithium chloride or lithium carbonate. Invention increases recovery of lithium chloride during sorption enrichment of natural lithium brines, improves the quality of lithium chloride and lithium carbonate obtained, widens the range of lithium-bearing hydromineral raw materials suitable for the production of lithium compounds, by using lithium-bearing natural brines containing suspended particles.

Abstract: A method for LiOHH2O production from lithium-bearing multicomponent hydromineral raw materials includes filtering lithium-bearing brine contaminated with suspended particles with regeneration of filters and processing of used regenerate, and obtaining pregnant lithium-bearing brine, isolation of lithium chloride from the brine in the form of a primary concentrate in sorption-desorption modules, and nanofiltration of the primary lithium concentrate from magnesium, calcium and sulfate ions. By means of reverse osmosis, electrodialysis concentration and ion-exchange purification from impurities followed by thermal concentration, the primary lithium concentrate is converted into a pregnant lithium chloride concentrate which is converted into a LiOH solution by membrane electrolysis. The LiOH solution is boiled down, resulting in LiOH.H2O crystallization.
