A dynamoelectric machine includes a rotor having a rotor core and permanent magnets, and a stator having teeth. The permanent magnets are arranged in magnet sets. Each magnet set includes one or more of the permanent magnets. The rotor core has a cylindrical periphery and slits. Each of the slits is positioned radially between one of the magnet sets and the cylindrical periphery. Each tooth includes a tooth surface facing the cylindrical periphery. The tooth surface includes an inner portion extending substantially parallel to the cylindrical periphery of the rotor core, and beveled portions positioned on opposing sides of the inner portion of the tooth surface. An air gap between each beveled portion of the tooth surface and the cylindrical periphery of the rotor core is greater than an air gap between the inner portion of the tooth surface and the cylindrical periphery of the rotor core.

A stator assembly includes a stator core defined by an inner periphery and an outer periphery, and a plurality of coils. The stator core includes a stator yoke. Each coil of the plurality of coils includes a first set of segments and a second set of segments each extending between the inner periphery and the outer periphery of the stator core. The first set of segments is arranged to form a first coil portion having a “V” shape and the second set of segments is arranged to form a second coil portion having a “V” shape. The first coil portion and the second coil portion each have a vertex and two ends. The ends of the first coil portion are coupled to the ends of the second coil portion. Other example stators, and example dynamoelectric machines and compressors including one or more stators are also disclosed.

A method of manufacturing dynamoelectric machines includes producing a first plurality and a second plurality of stator and rotor laminations using a die press, forming a first rotor from the first plurality of rotor laminations, and forming a second rotor from the second plurality of rotor laminations. The first plurality and the second plurality of stator laminations have the same inner and outer diameters. The first plurality and the second plurality of rotor laminations have the same inner and outer diameters. The first plurality of rotor laminations have a first magnet slot configuration and the second plurality of rotor laminations have a second magnet slot configuration different than the first magnet slot configuration. The first rotor and the second rotor may have the same or different stack heights. Preferably, a ratio of each stator lamination's inner diameter to outer diameter is at least 60%.
