摘要: A method and imaging assembly (10) are disclosed adapted for reading soft indicia (14) on a mobile device (12). The imaging assembly (10) comprises a scanning arrangement (20) adapted for capturing images from the soft indicia (14). The scanning arrangement (20) has an optical axis with a symmetrically oriented field-of-view (24) about the optical axis that is directed at the soft indicia (14) during operation. The imaging assembly (10) further comprises an illumination source (34) positioned in a housing (18) to provide smart illumination (36) toward the soft indicia (14) to be imaged. The smart illumination (36) construct being that the illumination source (34) is position in close proximity to the optical axis without allowing reflected illumination to enter into the scanning arrangement (20) field-of-view (24) and the smart illumination construct further forming a narrow illumination field-of-view (38) that is projected at the soft indicia (14) during operation.

摘要: An ambient illumination shielding apparatus for an imaging-based scanner adapted to read direct part marking (DPM) bar codes. The shielding apparatus includes an illumination shield extending from a housing of the scanner and extending along at least a portion of a path of travel of an aiming pattern generated by an aiming apparatus of the scanner. The shield passes illumination within a predetermined wavelength range and impedes passage of illumination outside of the predetermined wavelength range. The predetermined wavelength range of the shield includes a wavelength range of the aiming pattern generated by the aiming apparatus. The shielding apparatus further includes a filter disposed in proximity to an imaging system of the scanner and passing illumination within a predetermined wavelength range to the pixel array and impeding the passage of illumination outside of the predetermined wavelength range. The predetermined wavelength range of the filter includes a wavelength range of an illumination system of the scanner.

摘要: Interleaving multiple logical data streams into one physical data stream reduces overhead required to process the multiple logical data streams. Multiple arrays of data values are interleaved into a combined array of data that simulates a frame of data for input to a data port such as a video port. Revised timing and synchronization signals are provided to permit transmission of the combined array according to video data port protocol. The processor includes instructions for locating the various arrays of data values within the combined array.

摘要: A two dimensional symbol is decoded by forming a binary image that includes the symbol. The binary is used to generate symbol margins for use in digitization. By using the binary image to determine the symbol margins, margins can be located efficiently and in the presence of symbol contrast variation caused by irregularities in the marked surface or light source angles. Digitization proceeds based on the determined margins.

摘要: A two dimensional symbol is decoded by forming a sub-sampled image that is used to generate symbol margins for use in digitization. The sub-sampled image is based on local levels of contrast in the symbol. By using a sub-sampled image derived from local levels of contrast in the symbol to determine the symbol margins, margins can be located efficiently and in the presence of symbol contrast variation caused by irregularities in the marked surface angles. Digitization proceeds based on the determined margins.

摘要: The disclosure relates to optical image readers having a two-dimensional image sensor and an auto-discrimination function. The auto-discrimination function identifies optical codes by type for pixel clusters and, in some cases, tilt angle and start/stop coordinates. The clustered pixel data is passed to an appropriate decoder identified by the auto-discrimination function based upon a likelihood that the cluster contains an optical code of a particular type. Line drawing techniques provide for adequate sampling of the clustered pixel data code based on the tilt angle of the code relative to a image sensor array.
