Abstract:
Compositions comprising a sulfonated reaction product or a salt thereof may be prepared from a cyclohexylbenzene compound that has been alkylated with an olefin of formula R1R2CCH2, wherein R1 is a C6-C24 hydrocarbyl group, and R2 is H or a C6-C24 hydrocarbyl group. Methods for sulfonating an alkylated cyclohexylbenzene compound prepared from a cyclohexylbenzene compound that has been alkylated with an olefin of formula R1R2CCH2, wherein R1 is a C6-C24 hydrocarbyl group, and R2 is H or a C6-C24 hydrocarbyl group may comprise contacting the alkylated cyclohexylbenzene compound with a sulfonating reagent; forming a sulfonated reaction product; and converting the sulfonated reaction product into a sulfonate salt.
Abstract:
Low transition temperature mixtures (LTTMs) comprising a eutectic mixture of a quaternary amine and a polyol such as glycol are provided. The LTTMs can provide various beneficial properties, such as highly desirable viscosity index, low glass transition temperatures, and/or high kinematic viscosities relative to the molecular weight of the mixture components. The mixtures can be advantageously used as co-base stocks in lubricating oil compositions.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to ester compounds derived from neo-alcohol, lubricating oil base stocks comprising such ester compounds, lubricating oil compositions comprising such ester compounds, and method for making such compounds and/or base stocks. The lubricating oil base stocks comprising the ester compounds exhibit desirable lubricating properties such as polarity and oxidation stability.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to a composition for use as an additive for fuels and lubricants including a reductive amination product of a vinyl terminated macromonomer (VTM) based aldehyde. Optionally aldehyde is reacted with the amino compound under condensation conditions sufficient to give an imine intermediate, and the imine intermediate is reacted under hydrogenation conditions sufficient to give the composition. The aldehyde is formed by reacting a VTM under hydroformylation conditions sufficient to form the aldehyde. A reductive amination method for making a composition for use as an additive for fuels and lubricants. The method includes reacting a VTM based aldehyde with an amino compound containing at least one —NH— group under condensation conditions sufficient to give an imine intermediate, and reacting the imine intermediate under hydrogenation conditions sufficient to give said composition. The aldehyde is formed by reacting a VTM under hydroformylation conditions sufficient to form the aldehyde.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to ester compounds formed from gamma-branched aliphatic alcohols, lubricating oil base stocks comprising such ester compounds, lubricating oil compositions comprising such ester compounds, and method of making such base stocks. The lubricating oil base stocks comprising the ester compounds exhibit desirable lubricating properties such as polarity.
Abstract:
